vent/carbon filter

im wondering how people are using carbon filters. i see some people blowing air out the carbon filter and some people sucking air through. How are these to options being used? I will be having 6 1k lights in the room( ex. = = =). i also hear that i dont need an intake fan i can just have a small hole somewhere near the floor of the grow and air would just enter on its own? any advices on how i should do this?

In many smaller scale situations if your exhaust fan is strong enough you will not need an intake fan. With 6 1k lights i suggest you use an intake fan, but you could try just using passive intake( a hole), if temperatures are hard to control you will need an intake fan. IMO carbon filters work best with the air being sucked through it. When you see people pushing air through a carbon filter it is most likly because they do not have room for the filter inside the grow area.

ok...if i had them in a series of = = = (each dash rep. a light) whats the best way to setup my vent. I hear some people use carbon filter, but wouldnt the carbon filter suck up the co2?

anyone else have any opinions or ideas? the room is fairly large. the grow area is 12x12x8 but the room is about 16x14x8

No, you need a fan dedicated to your hoods sucking air out of them and a intake. Carbon filters need to suck air thru the filter, don't blow air in the filter, you can ruin it. The negative presure your talking about can work, but having a intake coming from out to in on a atmosphere controller is cruicial. Running 6k lights I'd suggest it but depending on the air temp outside if cool enough you may get away with it for a couple months but come spring you'll have to reconfigure.

This is my configuration, it works pretty good... If I added a dehumidifier it'd be near perfect, everything is on dampers to reduce co2 waste.

i know that looks pretty efficient, but isnt that over doing it on the fans? and also arent your co2 getting sucked out by the carbon filter?

peeps that setup that is fuckin tight! i think that you underestimate the heat created from 1000w lights....you will need at least one decent fan per run of 3 lights, probably one fan for every 2 lights, to efficiently cool them.
using the closed hood system like 303 will help alot for heat, but the lights will still raise the ambient grow room temps..hence the seperate air intake and carbon filter exaust......
having that fresh air intake also circulates air in the room better. also come summertime when the outside air is warming up, you can rig it up so that you just place the AC unit into the intake fans place, thus bringing pre-cooled fresh air into the room.
i believe the master controls sync the fans, dampers (which are essentially a flap that opens and closes slightly to adjust airflow thru the duct/opening), and co2 valve so that the exaust is not pulling the co2 out while it is open.

no over doing it with fans in fact there's another one that isn't pictured. the carbon filter and exhaust fan are on my cap controller and only come on when temp exceeds whatever temp I have it set at (85 normally) AND the controller will shut off co2 when any intake or exhaust turns on when needing to cool the room, once off co2 back on. The exhaust forces air outside, the carbon filter is attached to dump clean air outside my home, the other fan not pictured is a 10" inline fan ontop a standup really big filter scrubbing the air at all times, I use this last 4 weeks of flower to rid odor. The oscillating fans move the co2 around to the plants so it doesn't just drop to the floor. I think I'm dialed in, I just need to control humidity when it rarely exceeds 60% after that I'll be happy.
so basically, you are not suppose to blow air into the carbon correct?
Correct, think of it like an air filter on a car, it sucks air in, and exhausts out.
