Hello,

I've never grown before. To be honest it's been years since I've smoked, however I'm more looking to benefit from the medicinal standpoint and seeing as my state will probably never legalize even medical cannabis, I'm exploring alternatives.

My wife has okay'd a small grow tent, I'm going to be doing a 2x2x5.1 gorilla which has already been ordered. I'm still confused as to what kind of lighting, as I'm only going to be growing probably one plant at a time, but that is not the subject of this thread.

I've read up quite a bit on these forums but still have a few questions and was wondering if anyone could help me with this problem: I'm still very confused about the flowering time estimates on the website I may order seeds from. They list the flowering time as 50-60 days.

Does this mean I am waiting 50-60 days from seed to harvest, or is this 50-60 days from the time I switch my lighting to 12/12 after veg?

Assuming it happens from the time I switch my lighting to 12/12, what do I do if I see myself being away from home for about 7-10 days during time flowering time? Not sure I trust automatic watering.

If I'm going on vacation at the end of December, is there any feasible way right now that I could grow something to harvest by that time, and if not how do I care for the plants while I'm away?

Thanks in advance and sorry if this has already been answered.

To harvest before december may be pushing it. More so due to being a new grower. Your waiting on your set up. Your going to have to dial things in. You may have some bumps in the road. How long will your vacation be?

Although I think he's a fuckface, talk with a guy called Gary Goodson, he seems to really know his shit. Also ttystikk knows what's up.
Quite a few master growers here, really....look around, man....

For watering while away, I plan to use Blumats to water my crops this December. You can find them on Amazon and I've read a lot of very positive reviews. As long as you set up a reservoir with water, they will keep your plants watered while away.

All good suggestions, thank you. I may plan on trying to talk the wife into trimming the vacation down to 5 days max and give the wick method or Blumats a try. On a side note would autoflower seeds help me get a harvest before christmas?

there may be one thats ready in two months, but i'm not aware of it, the fastest autos im aware of still take close to three months from sprouting, but the things i don't know fill many books

after taking my shoe off so i could count higher than 11, i realized theres almost 3 months to christmas. if you get them in the ground within the next few days you got a chance, blue mystic auto from nirvana is supposed to be very fast, as is sweet seeds auto fast bud 2 , and their black jack is under 45 days apparently.

and if you've never grown autos, they're a little weird and picky, not a good choice to start your garden with. i've always thought og kush and white widow were easy to grow, and produce nice product. the blumats work as long as you don't grow huge trees, may need two for a 5 gallon pot, 3 if its a real bush, but they do work

I think I'd rather use the standard grow method anyways, it sounds a lot more enjoyable. I really only plan on growing one plant at a time, and probably one that's high in CBD which I think tend to be the smaller plants. Is it the blumats or blumats junior that people here use for a single pot?

I'm just germinating this week, so I'm slightly ahead of your schedule. I'll be using 2 medium blumats (not the junior) for each 5 gallon container. This is my first time using them...I was in the same boat as you trying to research how to survive a 5 day vacation. They seem like a more reliable watering option based on my research. I guess I'll find out.

FYI - I don't plan to run nutrients with the BluMat water...to keep the small water lines from clogging.

Good luck with your first grow!!

(Keep in mind that the smaller your pot, the more frequently it will need watering)

Thanks a lot, I had planned not using nutrients either. Since I have so much time before vacation I think I'm going to order the blumats and give it a test run for a week or so here just so I can get a feel for it. Let us know how your experience is with them.

I'm definitely doing test runs too for a few weeks leading up to my departure. I'll let you know.
