I think Ron Paul has a real shot at winning if he can get the nomination. He's one of the few Republicans that has some beliefs that Liberals can get behind. His foreign policy is appealing, he's the only guy running who would push to end the FED (though, I doubt he would be successful on this), and he has actually spoken out against corporatism recently.
The only things about him that make me nervous his trade position and his position on regulations. Free trade has not worked out well for America. Sure we can buy cheap shit now, but we lost our manufacturing jobs to do it. Of course, things have become so shitty now, that Sweden is moving some jobs here because we're wiling to work for less. It's not a deal breaker for me because everyone running for President is a free trader, including Obama. Ron makes a great point about regulations. There are a lot of regulations that were designed by lobbyists to stifle competition. I heard the other day that Monsanto is using the FDA to make their genetically modified seeds more desirable than organic seeds. I don't how much truth there is to that, but it sounds about right. But just because we have some shitty regulations, I'm not prepared to get rid of all of them. I like that coal companies have a limit to the amount of mercury they can dump into the environment. I think there was less instability in the stock market when we regulated banks. But again, no one else wants to regulate banks, including Obama, so I'll vote for Ron.
