want to try hydro

Hey mate, I actually started growing with hydro and have recently purchased an Alien RDWC system. Can't speak highly enough about it tbh. When it comes time to upgrade in size I will 100% be going back to them. I have a 6 pot one but I'm certain they do 2, 4, 6 and tonnes more

My last grow in a recirculating deep water culture system I got 36 ounces from 3 plants. 14 ounces each from two of them and 8 ounces from the third (was a different strain to the other two and had a few problems with it early on!). Across the last 6 grows in dwc I would say an average of 8/9 ounces

Hempy allows you to keep all plants separate if you want (unless you use an auto drip system like I do), so it simulates a soil grow. You have to pay attention to pH and PPM in and out like a full-blown hydro grow, but you can test and play and see what works before going full out hydro.

I'm considering a table or DWC grow here so I'm not knocking it (many people I know here on RIU and in real life started with hydro and do *very* well), but I'd recommend doing a hempy setup first off.

2 black 5 gallon buckets ($3 each), 2 net pot lids ($4.50 each), 2-4 air stones ($1 or less each), a 2-4 outlet air pump ($20), air tubing ($3), nutrients (maxigro/maxibloom, $30), ph up/down and test kit ($15), and hydroton ($8.)

just throwing a spanner in the works here but how can anybody look past coco? all the major producers i know are using it, i bet most of what you smoke in dispensaries are grown in coco, there is a reason for that.

That's wet yeah not dry
And if dry I'd love to see pics and setup

Nah that's after it was all dry. I think i deleted all pictures, I'll check but I tend to delete them once it's finished I only take them to show my grow partner. Setup is pretty much the same I have now, using nutrients called the genesis formula. The trees were monsters, can't be acheived if your limited greatly by space this was in a 2 meter high tent. Used air called hoods with the adjustable reflectors and an RDWC system same I have brought now from alien but a cheaper diy setup. The strain was called mandala, eight mile high, the second one was a cheese strain. I'll see if I can dig the pictures out from a message or something somewhere

I went dwc for my first hydro and haven't looked back. Very simple and doesn't need checked every single day if you're busy like I am.

Most dwc hydro systems need daily maintenance... even if its just to check water levels, ph, ec etc. Atleast if you want a perfect run.

Soil or coco on a timed drip, drain to waste, is very hassle free...

Theres a reason I always have atleast one dwc girl every grow. Been doing 1 soil 1 dwc and letting them get 5ft. Its very manageable.

Once they get bigger maybe check water levels. Once the pH levels out it usually doesn't need checked every day.

Yea I work a lot..I just don't see how it is less work lol I heard buds are more light green and frosty in hydro
Hydro is a science, which makes it easier to dial a plant in if you dont know much about growing.

If you know what your doing you can get about the same result with any method. People usually seem to think one is better than the other because they excell in that particular style.

If it was me, I would make your own system, and keep the plants pretty small so they are manageable. lifting a net pot and setting it on a new bucket with fresh nutes is easy with small girls ( less than 3ft mature ).

This way you dont need to plumb your buckets together. (Changing water in un-plumbed buckets containing big plants will cause you serious troubles)

#1. For 2 small plants it will be worth having 3-4 5gal buckets. This will allow you to have fresh nutes mixed and just switch it with a current bucket. You will also need fresh water at times so having an extra bucket will be convenient.

#2. Just need 2 - 6" net pots. Run your air hose through the net pots so when you switch buckets, you dont need to re route your hose through another bucket.

#3- you really only need a cheap fish tank air pump (found at Wal-Mart) and a couple eco-plus stones (grey are better than blue). But its worth buying a bigger pump to start with if you have the cash. Again eco plus has great pumps but u can choose any brand.

#3. Get a stable line for hydro. General Hydro, house and garden, canna, next generation, soul synthetics, mills, heavy 16 etc. Dont need the whole line just the bases and Micro.

#4 get a bag of hydroton clay pebbles. This is the best medium to fill your netpots with IMO. Rinse them off before you transplant. They will have a lot of dust on them and it can mess with ph.

#5 rock wool cubes. small ones will work. Just to get the seeds popped. Once it has its first leaf throw the cube in your net pot.

#6 PH pen and EC/ppm truncheon. If your gonna do hydro you need these items. If your not going to get them to start with just do soil. Being able to check your exact levels is crucial for getting superior results.

Bout a 78 day flower run... About 3 days off a perfect run in hydro. Ph crept a couple times.
