No, not uptight, just CHEAP. Why pay for any "ware" when you can usually find freeware out there? Or, even better, GO LINUX and it's ALL free, open source even. :D I did all my html coding and the like via Quanta and Bluefish. Granted, those editors are for people who really know what they're doing, but they worked well enough for me, close my tags for me and such.

I may actually have a copy of FrontPage, but again, I don't recommend using it unless a body doesn't mind being married to it. My friend is definitely married to it (he's the one who sent it to me) and with a site that's well into tens of thousands of pages trying to convert would not be a pretty sight (or is that site?).

In any event, isn't Cute FTP a free proggie? If not, there are tons of others out there. I, personally, rather prefer hosting from home, too. You have a LOT more control over what's happening to your server.

I can't figure out how to use PS, either. Totally different beast, fdd. If *I* can do it, I bet you can, too. :)

alright, you guys are sending me in circles. does anyone use "godaddy"? it appears i get 1 free credit for website hosting when i sign up for a domain. so i have 1 credit. i'm looking at it right now. "click here for the account type you want to activate". i don't need all these programs everyone is showing me. apparently.

i think i have an idea of what i want. basically just a site to put articles and tutorials. i have a bunch here posted that i would like to put together on one site. maybe an online book so to speak. so all i need to do is load text and pics in a cool looking format. i'll have different sections and maybe a comment and contact area. that's about it. :)

I used GoDaddy to buy my domain, but after our experiences having them host a site my husband set up some years ago.. it's hard to recommend them very highly. However, those plug&play websites are pretty easy to start off with. :D GO FOR IT! You don't need anyone here to hold your hand, just DO IT. Yoo can doo eet!

will you hold my hand? j/k.:blsmoke::peace:

next time i'm up late and can't sleep i'll look into. i'm worried that once i start i'll have to stick with it and i'm not ready for that yet.

It's ok, I'll hold your hand until it's time to leave. That means you've got til Sunday. The wetsuit JUST fits, but DAMN, it squeezes on my chest like nothing I've experienced in recent memory.

I know what you mean about the "once I start" thing. For me, when I start something like a website design I have to keep the information in my head fresh, otherwise I forget some things, makes it more difficult. But, as long as you remember to SAVE save save save save, you should be alright. Really. And you can use Notepad or OpenOffice to work the html should you need.

Honey oil made easy

edit: but the pics need to enlarge when you click them. and maybe a comment section.

Right click on the page (not on a link). Dialog box comes up. Select "View Page Source". A new window will come up, and depending on HOW the page was coded you should be able to see how they laid everything out. This particular page appears to have some javascript (but not to the point where they just say <table "my table"> (or however it's written, I don't fucking remember).

Giving this page a cursory glance it appears that there is some Javascript. There's a webpage for checking your code and getting great tutorials and now I'm drawing a God damned blank on it.

Anyway, you're looking at lots of tables to start, and I'll admit that I had a good bit of trouble with tables and alignment. Had to nick from others then tweak the code for my own needs. Want me to look around for my information? I know there are others who can probably do this in their sleep, I am not one of them.
Edit: There's no way I'll find that info. It went with the Gentoo OS when we wiped the Linux partition and installed Ubuntu. For fuck's sake.

i don't know shit about coding. you might as well be speaking French. i just liked the lay-out. the overall appearance. :blsmoke::peace:

That's great, and what's even better is that they GIVE you most of the code for what you see and are liking (the layout). Certain things you'd have to code in yourself, but others, jeez, just change a few things and it's YOURS.

Do what I said, then ctrl + C (that's copy), ctrl + S (save), ctrl + V (paste) into a new browser window. Et voila, the browser will display the code.

Now, paste again (ctrl + V) into a program like Notepad so you can see all the code itself.
I bet there are some here who could totally school me on this stuff, but if you like I can do a couple of screenshots showing you what I'm looking at and what I mean when I say to do one thing or another. Only problem is that it's probably going to look a LOT different from what you're accustomed to. If you're game so am I.
