My well water is.. very hard. Is it ok for outdoors? If so how should i go about feeding? I have some autos coming in and i will put them in some fabric pots with a mix of ffof and happy frog. Thanks for any thoughts.

Umm you should get that sorted out , for reasons other then plants. That is some bad water. I suggest getting a pro well guy in or going to a well forum, this is way beyond the scope of us growers

You need to find out exactly what is making the water hard. There are different types of hardness. Calcium, Sulfur, Lime...there are literally dozens of things that can send a PPM meter off the scale without telling you what it actually is.

It may turn out to be great water.

Most local governments provide free water testing. Check your local government to find out the procedures. Typically, you'll go pick up a specimen kit that gives you all the instructions on how to take a sample and return it to the testing facility. You'll normally get your results within a few days.

For all you know at this point, it could simply be lime rich...which is excellent for outdoor watering.

If you own a well you drink from, it is a VERY good idea t have it tested every couple of years to include choliform (sp?) bacteria. Even deep wells can become contaminated.

And at least once, have it tested for heavy metals and organics. You don't want to be drinking high levels of arsenic or toluene.

A good, broad spectrum analysis should be around $150. Well worth the money (pun intended).......

Thanks guys! We DO NOT use the water for drinking or cooking at all :spew: Going to send a sample to home depot or lowes, or check with local government (ty taco mac). Its not our property or well, we were thinking of setting up RO for our shower and kitchen sink but might have to hold off for a week or so. We bring 5-10 gallons of water home a day or two right now just for drinking and cooking. I will post test results when i get them if anyone is interested.

My dugout water is around 500ppm and we use it in the house but don't drink it. I wouldn't waste RO water for showering unless your house water tests high in something toxic. My 16 year old dog has been drinking ours for the last 13 years and is looking poorly but I don't think it's the water tho. :) Damn cats keep disappearing before they get old enough to die from bad water. Just lost Sweetums last week and just have her mother left from a start of 4. Coyote or fox most likely.
