what are these flying black gnats in my grow? anybody have this problem?

The larvae eat fungus and organic decaying matter as a primary food source, the only time they are gonna eat your roots is if there is no available food source alongside a serious infestation. Some of my heaviest plants have had my largest populations... go figure ; ;

mosquito dunks work i hear. I know a drench application of azamax does too. a good way to prevent them is to cook your soil before using itor seal your soil in an airtight container for a few weeks

They are THC gnats. They suck up resin untill they swell. If you can catch enough of them you can smoke them. Stronger than bubble hash.

Peroxide on the top soil will kill the fungus gnat eggs in the soil. I think they only lay them an inch below the soil.

I would not bake soil. it will kill all the good stuff, if it gets that bad then buy differnt soil. But ,i use gonats,works great. as a soil drench. Drench once,the 2 weeks later drench again.start out with 10ml a gallon. if that doesnt do then try 15ml. But it should wrk great,. I used gonats for a bad infestion of springtails. WORKS

baking the soil doesn't kill anything good (only thing good is microbeasties and the heat activates them). but dumpin peroxide will kill your roots.
