What could this be?

I have 3 plants. Possible overcrowding. So if this plant is donezo I can accept that and pursue the other two more vigilantly. I'm not really sure what this could be, I have treated this plant the exact same as the other two. I realize its small plant in big pot but its too late for that so I would appreciate no comments on that, I'm not downpotting. I'm using 250w MH light at a little over 3 ft from the plants. I am watering in a small circle around the plants to prevent roots from starving early. Watering to run off which comes out to a little over 2 red solo cups for each and using half nutrients (liquid fert, Fox Farm+Fox Farm Ocean Forest soil). I have had some trouble with temps so I have a portable AC. Temps fluctuate between 81-84 during the day and sit around 75-77 for their nights. I realize different strains are different and require different attention. So I'm wondering what I might have to do differently to help my Gorilla Girl. This one is in the middle and probably has the most access to light, although not by much. Which makes me believe it isn't just without light reaching for the sun. It got the exact same amount of water/nutes as the other two, which leads me to believe it's not under/overwatered if the other two are doing fine. Again, if there is no saving her, I wouldn't mind just tossing her and focusing more on the other two that are lookin alright.

There are others much much more experienced than me, but in my experience when seedlings are that small, I have never used more than 2 ounces of water every 2-3 days on them. They do not need much water, in that big of a pot it just needs to be very concentrated. Watering to runoff afaik and as far as I have ever done, should not be done this early at a seedling stage. I believe you are drowning them.

In the below picture, these seedlings are 10 days from sprout. At this point I gave each 2 ounces When I put them in the dirt 12-13 days ago (before sprout), they only got watered 3 times each all the way until this point at about 7-10 days from sprout. That is 6 total ounces from seed *I planted in soil to 10-13 days later. You are using 32 ounces on each plant every watering.


With the size container you are using and surrounding soil drying up some of the water, I would think at most maybe 4 oz per watering in a concentrated area (maybe double what I used in a much smaller container)

Edit: as a side note, I don't even consider watering to runoff until the plants "fit their pot". Even with soil and organic growers this can be a contentious subject as it isn't the same as growing in inert mediums. Many SS and hot soil growers and producers will recommend never watering to runoff. (eg: I am using my kindsoil in my current run and they firmly advocate against watering to runoff and only watering every 3-5 days once you begin heavily watering)

Is that potting soil? If it is you should not be giving them any nutes and only about 4-8oz of water every 3-4 days.

@dbz Ah ok, I did water a bit more because my tent was a bit hotter than recommended temps and moisture was pretty low, so I figured the heat was drying them up quicker. But you may be right. Just wondering why the other two seem fine with the same amount of water, maybe they are just more resilient. Weirdly enough, out of all the research I did before this first grow... watering was the most confusing aspect lol. So ty for the advice.

Yeah he is in FFOF. Definitely too much water imo.

i think you might not be able to save it. Looks like it is under attack by thrips or something

(when they get attacked this young they hardly ever make it)

@JoeBlow5823 Hmm ok so I am definitely overwatering, I guess the other two are just more resilient. Also I read that they should get half the recommended nutrients. I guess that is just when veg stage starts... Is there a good visual indicator that veg has officially begun?

I highly recommend a propagator in the seedling stage. It really helps keep humidity levels high, which plants love. I say open the tent too make it easier on you to keep them cool (If you are in a propagator you aren't really climate controlling the tent) Make sure they aren't on a cold surface.

You are in a decently hot potting soil with Ocean Forest, you shouldn't need anything for weeks as far as Nutes go. You can look in the organic threads here if you want to continue with soil amendments (like EWC and teas) or look for nute lines that go well with your soil. You certainly don't need to consider anything until at least past the seedling stage and well into Veg.

These were in soil and were not given any nutrients until about 2 weeks after this point. FFOF should get you through the first 6 weeks without any additional nutrients.

@dbz Yea I got the Fox Farm Trio, figuring if it was made by same company they would have their nutes in order with their soil nicely. But ok so no nutes for a week or two more then. Probably a dumb question but I couldnt find anything online to indicate "plants have entered veg." Is there a big indicator people usually look for? Like a certain # of leaves or plant size?

@Freedom Club Hmm thats pretty frightening, I hope not. Just feels odd they would fly right past the J47 from the bottom intake and go straight for the Gorilla Girl. Could just be preference lol

@JoeBlow5823 Wow ok so I definitely gave them nutes wayy too early. Good to know I'll write that down for next time. Hopefully they do alright if I just give them regular 6.5 ph water from here on out, or at least until they are ready for the nutes.

Look at the plants @JoeBlow5823 posted that is still without extra nutrients. The FF trio is a good nute trio, but you just don't need it for quite a while in Ocean Forest. You have a pre-charged soil, with good bacteria and plenty of amendments in it. You aren't looking at a couple weeks before you need to use nutes, you are looking at 1.5 months or so before you need to use them.

It can be confusing, but you have to remember to think about the medium you are growing in. People that start out with nutes tend to be growing in inert media Like Coco Coir, Vermicullite and perlite mixes or hydroton or something. Many soil growers never use any nutrients but use amendments and teas. Some use Super Soils and may not even add nutrients the entire grow.

They should. Once they get to vegging good its almost hard to fuck them up.

@dbz Ok yea that definitely makes sense, hopefully I didn't do too much damage. I will continue on with that in mind and hope all goes well.
