what have you tried? what did you like/dislike? and why? hydro, soiless, organics.

sooo i just grabbed an entire run of house and garden today...... I've been very very curious about all the hubbub this stuff is causing. I've ran just about every "Line" in the book and they really are no different. just different combinations of the same stuff. like mexican vs italian food... 90% the same ingredients in different proportions.

house and garden on the other hand seems to be promising an awful lot that will differentiate it from the rest. NO SALT BUILD UP is the number one OMG in my book. thats my biggest headache with a DTW system and why i have only ran automated twice.

Drip clean is another one that is interesting. supposedly if i were to use it in a system that hasn't been using H&G nutes from day 1 it would kill my plants because all the salts will break loose and all go to the plants at once.... this sounds to me to be a flush type product? like clearex maybe?

i got a big ole batch of all organic soil cooking up at the moment too so lets not let this thread turn into a YOU SHOULD DO THIS!! type of thing. lets just talk about the issues we've came across and what you did to fix it. maybe someone else has ideas if said issues still plague you.

now the whole organic vs synth debate is a big one that could blow this thread all out too. for some very complicated reasons organics or synths might just be the perfect method for someone to grow, maybe not you, but for someone else it might be the only thing thats worked good for them. maybe just read why it worked and take this into acct before we go on the attack. properly grown synth weed is just as quality as organics is and organics has a whole set of its own issues to contend with. so lets just keep it fun and talk about things that we PERSONALLY have experience with. no hear say please. we could build a nice pile of info here.

the H&G run cost $518 dollars for anyone who was wondering..... yes $518... now i know what your thinking rrog..... "I coulda bought so many damn mushrooms with that $518!" But hear me out! like i said i wanna automate some stuff so i got more time for the little tikes! yes tikeS, we just found out my ole lady is pregnant again so I'm just trying to get a nice automated setup all tuned in before i got my hands really full with 2 kids in diapers!

Im gonna run with Hellraizers setup with the corrugated roof table to drain any overflow off into some gutters then off to a drain. hellraizer has some great info over at TSD. i thought their was a thread here too but i cant seem to find it. if anyone could steer me that way that would be cool!

another strange thing quick, The house and garden schedule says to "mix A then let stand, mix B then let stand" "NEVER mix a and B in concentrate!" so thats cool..... and it also says to adjust my PH after adding the bases then to add the "Stimulants" and go. no more adjusting after the bases... the stimulants will cause it to drop but thats ok its a "Natural" process...... if i haven't read and seen so much good done by these guys id for sure say they are full of shit but damn.... idk... every instinct tells me not to listen to it but what do you guys think? should i?

Also a lot of products on the market today promise a WHOLLLLEEEE lot. so if you've tried any of the magic snake oils floating around out their and gave it an honest side by side test (Pics will be much more believed and less fought against if its controversial) Please chime in on them and fill us in on how they did.

I'm currently testing Mr. mustache Bushido stash and so far I'm actually digging it. idk how I'm gonna do a full side by side to test just that nute honestly but i can tell you this. i gave a nice healthy dose to a bunch of honeys week 1 bloom and they are all so green its great. almost no yellowing or turning lighter greens at all. just dark green just magic!

I'm currently running ebb & flow hydroponics using Botanicare's Pure Blend Pro organic line of liquid nutrients and teas. I chose the brand for quality at economical rates due to my financial situation. I chose hydroponics due to my physical situation, as crawling around watering and playing in the dirt often is just not an option for me any longer. I'm doing broke and handicap gardening here the best I can :weed:

you running tables or rez and control bucket?

i love the botanicare pure blend tea. its one of my favorite methods of feeding seedlings. like day 3 you can start with a couple drops of that stuff in just a water bottle and it will get em cruising right along.

I used to have a table, but she broke down and has since been parted out. I'm down to a CAP 2.5 gallon system. I used to transfer and flower in a 5 gal system, but that followed the way of the table :(

you get those caps tuned in they will do the trick just fine. what medium you rocking in those? i knew a lot of people making the switch to a rock wool / hydroton mix so they didn't have to work those buckets so hard and risk them fucking up. the black control buckets are well lets just say.... quirky.... lol

I use rockwool when dealing with cuts or seedlings in cubes, but if I cut with an areocloner I often just drop them in strait hydroton.

how often do you flood? do you find the end product much different then when hand watering?

I'm doing only 2 15 minute floods currently. Yes it is much different than top hand watering. The repeated and complete flood and drain leaves no stale medium/root areas as even the air is replaced in the process.

soil (ffof), technaflora recipe for success nutes, 5 gal pots (pain in the ASS to water once flipped). 2nd harvest about to happen this week. only been growing for 2 harvests, but did 6 months of searching before growing. had many of patients check out my meds and they always come back for more.

trying a DWC right now with the simplest of nutrient schedules. General Hydroponics 3 bottle system and a tiny bit of extra cali magic cal mag. That's it. if it goes well I will get more buckets and try to amend a little more. Usually I grow soil (my own base mix with bat shits and blood bone meals) but I go with what works best in the end so I'm back to DRO to try DWC (nutes were left over from a flood and drain a year or two ago-worked but didn't blow me away)

C&T? Just try the micro and bloom of your 3 part mix.

H&G is a great product line. Drip clean is pretty much being ran by the whole clan no matter what nutes they are mainly running. Yeah it will break years of shit loose from your medium. Use every time u add water a little less than recommended. Bump at flush.

We normally don't run all of the enhancements, multi-zen ect.

Fear the shooting powder. Shit works but can cause TRD. total room death.
We start it a little earlier by a week or two. And really go light
If you have ever seen a picture of a totally white calyst? Prob shooting powder. Hesi's will do the same thing.

And re-used hydroton is cheap as shit too :) I'm an organic guy, self proclaimed connoisseur of the finer flavors and more natural approach-I do soil mostly and compost and all that but if I stop trying, I stop evolving and won't ever be the best (ultimate goal, grow the best in the world and be the best I can be as a grower) so I try this and that. These nutes are over 3 years old, the hydroton is about 5 years old and the bucket was nearly free. with almost 0$ into this trial any pot from it is a huge score. Rrog, I still read the organic section and living soil and my recipe expands often on your advice so don't feel like I'm stepping out on you LOL. I aint broke up with soil yet but like a horny teenager I take my bone down the easiest path to get me where I gots to get ROTFL dig? I assume I'll find that this shit grows well in hydro the way I'm rolling right now clan-style apparently-HIPPY U THE MAN- but there will be something missing or lacking in the final product. if its not obvious what was dro and what was soil I'll likely fold up my garbage bins of dirt and be a dro man 90% with 10% refining my soil recipe. I likely won't stop either one cold but the path of least resistance is me and drop is just easier.....assuming I can get the same quality

soil doesn't take longer, at least my way of thinking. its in the prep work. if you do a perpetual grow then it's just more steps, maybe a few more stages a couple more plants in that way. BUT-when you're set up and running on a 2 week interval its every 2 weeks regardless if you veg for 2 weeks or 2 months, every 2 weeks there is a shift and harvest. same as soil yeilding more than dro, too many variables to make that statement, its the lights and watts/gram you watch for anyway and you can come close to 1g/watt doing either unless you're elite in one area or the other. 1g/watt is an attainable goal I know there are freaks pulling 2-3 grams per watt, they are freaks.
