What? Me have a plan?

Finally finished vapor barriering the 'room'. I need to rig up a frame to suspend the lights from that I can raise and lower them. Tomorrow I'll be able to get some humidification going in the room.

I got the lights suspended. I need to replant the beer cup plants today. I took a clone off the CBD plant and it seemed to be successful. I am trying another one in the glass with the plastic wrap on it. I still need to do a little more work, reflective surfaces, some stands to keep the plants at the same level, some ventilation.I have a pan of water and the fan blowing over it which has given me a humidity of around 40-45%. I think I am ok for a while. Because of the 'Cheap Grow' thread I looked into other light options and will be trying some.

Just noticed this on a few leaves today, getting too close to the light, sulfur deficiency?

Otherwise they were looking good.

I am also interested in knowing what that could be. Last grow I had something that looked exactly like that (maybe a bit less brown and a bit more bronze) in between the veins of only a few leaves. The marks were only directly under the light, appeared suddenly after feeding, and I came to the conclusion that they got too dry and the feeding burnt them. I was told then that this looks like excess nutrients and you also have burnt tips so maybe you could check your feed levels and runoff.

Yeah I did some reading and I came up with over watered, got a probe and it said I was a bad boy also. Left the room over for a day and the drop in humidity helped dry things up and it does not seem to popping up in other areas. I am using Pro-Mix multi-purpose granular garden fertilizer 7-3-3. It said to mix in three tablespoons to the soil for the given container, I have not added any lime as I had just under 7 pH for the soil. Temperature is about 75 degrees. I have read Epson Salt is one way to add magnesium and I have some, will have to read up about how much to use but I guess I'll wait a few more days before I water. I also have the Pro-Mix 4-4-8, I could add some of it to the water also. At least the plant is big enough to suffer my learning curve and I have also taken a couple of clones off of it so I have don't have to sweat each little bump in the road worried about loosing it.

Well I tried a cheap driver and COB from EBay. They are suppose to be 100W, I put the Leds on the driver and only got 30V at 1.2A, so 36W. I wondered if it might be the Led array was not really a 100W so I connected two no the driver. Now 28V at 1.2A. The driver might be able to do more on 240V but at 120V it sucks. You can see the second array just inside the right hand corner. A bit tricky to get everything jury rigged and visible in the picture.

I posted this in the Budget Grow Challenge but since I am using it in my room I might as well post it here. I took some charcoal briquettes and beat them with a hammer, wrapped them in landscaping fabric, stapled it together, and taped it up in a cardboard box. I then used a fan to blow the air through it and out the room. Seems to work, I am exhausting it into my workshop and I did not smell anything.

The charcoal filter still seems to be working. I do catch a whiff of the plants where it is dumping air but nowhere else in the house. I realized I have not updated the plant's progress in a while. I found I under watered them last week and they went limp, perked up right quick with a drink. I just added some grow tubes which I had from years past to the mix but eventually I want to add some 100W EBay cobs I picked up.

Also thought I would add to my thread the 50W experiment I posted in the cheap Grow thread going on.

Just wanted to update on my 50W Ebay blurple that came in the mail. I stuck it on a Pentium heatsink and it seems cool enough in free air so the on board drivers keeps the specified wattage flowing. the heatsink is warm and the end fins are not as warm as they could be. That means the thickness of the mounting side is not thick enough to transfer the heat to the ends. A bit of a shame as it would run the chips cooler but what do you want for nothing? So the 50W cob cost $5, the heatsink and fan I will have to look up at an E-waste recycling place in town as I had these laying around, the 12V adapter powering the fan was $4 at a thrift store.

SOB, I was doing some pruning and my big fat ass bumped my (temporary) florescent fixture and it almost split my plant in two. It is a good thing I learn from my mistakes. Otherwise I don't know how I would get through life.

Did some shopping, got luck at some thrift stores. Found a Dollar Store drip watering system for $0.75, I was only interested in the black tubing and the T's, some drip fittings, we will see if they are worth anything. I want to try a DWC with a drip to get the roots going. I have a small indoor rock garden pump that I also bought from a thrift store a while back. Some air pumps from my aquarium days and some air stones. I did go to a local hydroponic store and buy some dry nuts, baskets and Hydroton balls, cancelled out my cheap buying streak. From the thrift stores I also got four 12V 0.75A adapters to drive the fans for the heat sinked 50W line powered Cobs. Also got a thermostat for $3 to control a fan if I want to dump some heat, two mechanical timers at $1 each for when it is time to go to flower.

I could have loads of fun if it were not for my 10 plant grow limit. I might go to flower in a couple of weeks with the larger plants, still trying to decide on using my original CBD plant as a mother or flower her out.

So I finally replaced the 11W bulb with the 50W 'full spectrum' cob cooled by the Pentium heatsink. The fan is powered from a 12V switching power supply I got for $2, the extension cord for $2, the power cord for the Cob (a laptop adapter cord with the end cut off) for $1. With the $5 cob that makes it, well cheap. The cob that I used had the solder on pads and I wrapped a Ty-Rap around the heatsink and it covered up the live ends. The chip with the push in connectors will take care of that issue. The fan is not exactly noiseless, not the type of thing I want in a living space.

I have been reading about vertical growing. Although I have not trained these for it I think I will give it a try.

I am trying cloning in some perlite and vermiculite with water in the bottom and a hole in the cup just below the end of the cutting.
