It can be, or you can add nutes. Its good for 2-3 months with out nutes. But I suggest Nutes. Either way its a learning curve, just watch what your doing and remember what works and what works better, when you can always go with what works better for you.
Cool, thanks...but...uh..what are nutes?? typical newbie question right...:/

FF is the best and most popular with growers. However, many experienced growers have experimented with Miracle Gro soils and some attest to their success. If you ask a really experienced grower, someone who has been doing this a while, they will suggest their own recipe. If you compare brand potting soils on the market you will notice many of the ingredients are the same. It's usually the quality and content ratios that separate one from the other (which most bags don't list). I use a good inexpensive organic potting soil (Uni-Gro), and I mix with about 1/8 sand, 1/8 Perlite. I also use GrowBig nutes starting at 1/4 solution for vegging. My plants seem to be doing well in the medium. I don't doubt the claims with FF, but for me the price turned me onto other, cheaper soil mixtures.

Google " soil recipe marijuana ", and you should get a ton of recipes by experienced growers. You should be able to save some money using cheaper soil parts bought at your local garden center. For me, growing is about experiencing a great hobby and saving money on Mr. Puff-puff.

Happy Frog is fine. It's a FF soil. Mix in 20% perlite. Perlite is very cheap and very dusty when you mix so wear a swine flu mask, or cover your mouth with your shirt.
Nutes, buy a small bottle of Fox Farm Grow Big. do not give any to plant for first 3 weeks its above ground. then just 1/4 recommended amount (to start).

Im wondering if its possible to loosen up soil >.<

I decided i wanted to try and compare soil and hydro and i really had no experience with soil :P

Im late into flowering and even though i mixed lots of perlite and vikur with the soil its stiff as shit >.<

I made a mistake by using Coconumilk for hormones and molasses , its only doable with hydro cause it seems to turn the soil into concrete >.<

Any tips on how to loosen it up?

There is an additive called Gypsum that loosens soil.

Also most every soil "conditioner" that you buy at Lowes, Home Depot, etc. has Gypsum in it.

You can place it on top of your existing dirt to break it up a little bit but to break it up all the way you will need to remove the plant, loosen the roots, then tranplant it.

I guess ill let them finish :(

They only have about 15 days left.

Why does everyone suggest cutting FF ocean? Is it that u think it's too "hot" or that it doesn't drain well?
I'm new to soil, and have been doing some reading. I've been looking at using FF Ocean, cutting it with some coiar I already have, just for early growth in a plastic cup. Then transplanting into a 3gal container with full/regular strenght FF Ocean soil, after ~2 weeks or so.
The way I figure I will not "need" to fert for the first few months. Again, this will be my first soil (have 3 or 4 hydro grows under my belt). When I grow hydro I come up with a different complicated way of growing for each crop, in my small space....I'm just trying to get back to basics.

you atleast want to cut it with perlite, you can never have to much in my opinion, i mean worst case scenario you end up with a hempy bucquet.
