most of that burn is on old leaf your new growth is pretty good
are you feeding constant 24/7 or on/off if on/off it could be burn from when its sitting
never had a problem with hard water certainly would not take that as the cause
clay pebbles are a mare not the best of substrates for hydro great for garden paths

Originally this was a 2nd hand system and the water drained out filthy I dont even know where the dirt came from but yeah..
I cleared it all ran clean water through it a couple of times then created a new resevoir and was going well but now the leaves have started to curl up after being away for a couple of days so I'm thinking maybe I havent sorted the problem
While I went away I turned my dripper from a 1 hour feed at lights on with 2 half hour feeds throughout the day to a half hour feed every couple of hours just in case as this dripper bubbles the water up the tube so it drips out the rings such a small amount of water slowly, tiny amounts to the amount I use to drown my coco but im thinking surely if it was over watered the leaves would be drooping

The dirt in your line is probably the dust from the hydroton. Was it orange brown?
As others said, dont run hard water in hydro. Check your run off PPM and make sure the meter is calibrated. If your running 670ppm on hard water AFTER adding nutes then u are probably deficient. Generally hard water is above 250ppm on it's own. My water is 600ppm out of the tap.
