It was fun hard work. A great natural work out out. Throwing shovels of asphalt that weight around 30 lbs or more across the mat. Then there are the machines. We all played with tonka toys as a kid right? Well it is just on a bigger scale. PLus I got to work outside. I love being out doors. Yeah it stank, but it was good honest work. No paper pushing. You knew when you were done and had done a good job. Plus it was something i was good at. I dont have a degree just a GED. I have moved on to do different thing that illegals cant do, because of their illegal status, not because they are incapable. i was younger then. I am now almost 40 and cant handle that type of work anymore. SUCKS getting old. I had worked my way up to running my own crew after only 4 years, only to lose it to an illegal. He couldn't write english and barley spoke it. My super gave it to him because he could pay him less. The super had the balls to demote me, but still wanted me to handle all the paper work and deal with the other contractors. Gave the illeagal the company truck, and the other bennies. I couldn't handle the bs and quit. I was so pissed. The only reason was because he could pay him less than me. He didnt do as good of a job as me. He wasnt as dedicated as me and hadn't been with the company as long as me. If I lost the position because i sucked or couldnt do the job that would be one thing........
