Why Buy Seeds?

Is there something I am missing out on? I am growing right now from seeds just because i said fuck it and planted some seeds I found. But here in Denver, CO I can go to one of the shit ton of dispensaries and get a clone for around 10 bucks. When I look at people or places selling seeds its almost 10 dollars for a seed. Wtf? I can skip the whole seedling stage and go right into flowering with clones. So why buy seeds?

Not everyone has access to dispensaries, and some folks just can't get the hang of cloning. So they need to buy seeds.

I think most people do clone but even cloners want to buy new genetics and sometimes disease and otheer misfortune force the need for buying new seeds to get started again.

everything somewhere had to come from seeds

either you buy or buy from somebody else that bought

even clone only were is it from space, test tube, somewhere in its past is a seed that was prolly bought

a true gardener can take a seed from a pack
and run it to harvest -solving problems along the way

if you can get a plant past seedling stages you are 75 percent home
i think maybe 80 percent of plant loss during seedling stage
a critical but necessary part of being a true gardener

Really? You can't come up with a circumstance, or reason someone would grow from seed. I mean really?
1. Fresh or new strains the hillbilly dispensaries haven't been able to secure yet.
2. Exotic cross strains your dispensary will never carry.
3. Growing from seed means there is a zero percent chance of transporting bugs or pathogens into your grow room.
4. The chances that your dispensary is carrying the very best pheno of a particular strain is zero. I guarantee you they are not.
5. Some growers are looking for a male plant to make their own crosses. This must come from seed, as I've not seen a dispensary yet
that carry's male clones.
6. Most seed banks offer specials, where by multiple, quality strains can be had for the price of one middling dispensary clone.
7. I have shipped plants and clones all over the U.S.. If someone wants one of my crosses, sending seeds is much more cost efficient.
8. I like to have several seeds on hand of a particular strain, from the same lot. if I find that strain to be of the "kick ass" variety, I
have a fail safe' if the plant is lost, or I need to move it along.
9. Different seeds are always on sale. I like to stock up. If I'm trading clones, seeds are a good kicker to get a strain someone doesn't
want to part with.
10. Variety of genetics from the same pheno. Chances are, if you have been growing a while, your looking for a specific pheno for a specific strain. A ten pack of seeds will almost assure you of the exact plant type you want, for a specific strain.

Good question! I live in So Cal, not to far from Hollywood. The last clone I bought was White Window. If the grower is good and I like the strain, I usually prefer the clones. The problem I keep having is finding a good clean grower. I keep getting clones with pests in the soil. And the selection isnt the greatest.

Lately I've been buying seeds. It adds two weeks to my grow, but I get a much better selection and I have total control from seed to harvest.

My friends that run co-ops like it better too because they trust my plants and like that I always grow hard to find strains. We often swap strains or they buy my excess.

Growing for me isn't work, the entire process is fun. So I don't really mind the tiny bit of extra work seed bring. Its all in good fun. :)

lots of people do not want to risk bringing some disease into their grow room. I read too many stories about bugs and mildew being transfered from clones. I would always choose to grow from a clone however it would be a clone I have taken. If I want something new I will plant some seeds and clone from them.

This might come as a surprise to you, but the world does not revolve around American medical marijuana  One or two alternative countries where cannabis is cultivated are coming to mind, just the one or two though..

an its the only way you can consideryoself a true gardener of the herb

the rest are just prepatratin a fraud

can you imagine someone makin a cup entry wit a clone -how far would that go

if you cant go from seed to harvest is one thing if you choose not to is another

i told a bud of mine untill you do you aint growin shit

if you can only finish what sumone else starts

it aint growin

clones could be a part of your operation but not the operation

Thats good info. Thank you all. Im reading some of the replies and laughing because its like some people took it way serious like "Dude are you kidding me what kind of question is that, if you grow from seeds you are better than everyone who buys clones!!!!!!" Ok. I dont even care at this point, Im a hobby grower not one of the best growers in the world and chances are neither are you. I have actually only ever grown from seed. The best reason to go with seeds in my case so far to me, is not bringing home pests. Oh ya Tip Top Toker, I know there are other places in the world that cultivate cannabis....those countries just dont matter as much as America. Im not a Xenophobe, I just think America is better than every other country in the world. That used to be called patriotism. Anyways, when more states get on the medical marijuana train everyone will forget about those "one or two" countries. Just one or two though.
