Why so many autoflower growers?

got any photos of your grows?
Tons - I have almost 7 years worth of work, fully documented on RIU, with either 12/12 from seed or close to it. All of the links in my signature are relevant to your question.

Here is just a random page full of pics from photos with virtually no veg time. Seed gets wet, 23 days later flip to 12/12, for example:

Your grows look awesome mate. Very nice top quality bud in a pretty short time. I'm sure that you have many years growing experience on me. If my Auto theory fails I'll be switching over to something like a sog

I've got confidence that a constant 6 week turn around is possible with autos. I pulled 14 ounces from 2 autos on my very first grow so I guess that's why I believe it can be done.

Unfortunately in the part of the world where I live plant numbers are a limiting factor. So it's much better for me to try and fill my tent with 4 plants in a scrog.

I'm only a year into growing

I wish you the best and I'm sure you'll find your way. It's just important to remind you that all Autos are {Something} x Ruderalis. I think it's safe to exchange Ruderalis with any of the following words:
Schwag, Bunk, Crap

I mean - if you're fine with capping your potential at the lower end of mid-grade cannabis for the convenience auto's offer, then go for it. But just don't ever forget that. You are absolutely capped at mediocrity.

I think you are dead wrong mate. There are some pure fire auto strains out there.

Depends what u mean by mediocrity. High? Flavour? Appearance?

You can’t define something as mediocre unless you’ve tried everything it has to offer.

there are some shit photoperiod plants around to.

When/what was your last auto?

The photo breeders keep raising the bar with gorilla mutants, shotgun weddings, flavored gelatos.
After seeing the tissue culture work stations hoods going in (doing their own pheno, sexing, cloning), you realize the numbers are just going to keep going up.

I got a few photo sensitive strains I prefer for sativas. They stay in veg like a photo, sudden changes in hrs or spectrum triggers them for flower with minimal flip time where they stay. It's a remnant ruderalis trait that was passed down from way back.

I grow both, why limit yourself? Both have its pros and cons. With autos I can go in my grow room anytime I want lights on without a single worry. I’ve had them grow side by side with bugs infesting the photo while the auto standing there strong and tall without a single bug.
When I started growing autos they were a joke at 7% now they are near photos. They have come a long way, the gap is closing.
They don’t water down a photo with a wild ruderalis they breed other autos that have already been worked on. They basically single out the auto gene and go from there. For example gca is bred with two very well known autos.
Diaper growers here blabbing about crap they know nothing about. You also don’t need to keep buying auto seeds you can make your own from existing autos. You only need one auto to make s1 female seeds or you can make f1 female seeds with two, so easy.

I looked at either running photos or autos in my grow space. I ran the figures on which style has the higher yield potential over 12 months and autos won by a lot.

I have one 2.5 X 2.5 X 5 tent and one 4 X 4 X 7 tent. And I have a small proportion tent that sits on top of the 2.5 X 2.5.

If I run a photo mother in the 2.5 X 2.5 I can root the clones and move to the bigger flower tent. With a dialled in fast flowering strain I could pull a yield and every 9-10 weeks.

If I propagate auto seedlings in the clone tent then move to the 2.5 X 2.5 for 4-5 weeks then into the flower tent to finish for another 5-6 weeks I can harvest my flower tent every 5-6 weeks.

Autos win out gram to gram over photos.

I know there are other variables which apply but the theory is sound. Pretty soon I'll get a diary up so you can see my methods.

And don't bother saying something like Autos are too small or not potent I'll tell you right now that your wrong. The genetics have come a long way since the Low Ryder. The interest in autos had pushed the breeders to develop some pretty amazing auto strains that can yield heavy top shelf bud.

I've got 4 ethos Pluto Cut Autos running 6 weeks in which are showing a lot of promise.

And you can't tell me that Ethos would release anything sub par on to the market
Size isnt all that matters. She told me herself..
Ruderalis IS less potent. Bottom line proven fact.

I've grown photos and autos. I grew the first generation autos outdoor. Lowryder and Shortryder was the thing in early 2000's. Quality was horrible and I've seen autos develop to be acceptable smoke.

But I'm not fooling myself saying Autos yield more or is more potent. That's why growers with experience laugh because we all been new to this and believing or smoke is the best shit around, it's not.

Everything with ruderalis in the genetic line will be less potent, heard rumours about autos outside of the ruderalis genetic line but I have to see it with my own eyes to believe it. Cheers!
Speaking the truth!! .... unfortunately there will never be autos without ruderalis genes because ruderalis is a species of cannabis that evolved to flower in areas that may not see 12 hours of night. It was then able to grow wild and continue to evolve to this day to lack traits which were being manipulated by humans all that time in indicas and sativas. The result is ruderalis is the sole catalyst to auto plants and imparts its genetic code which includes its lack of potency.

Selective breeding has upped the THC content of cannabis for sure, but it's potency has pretty much been maxed out.

As far as I know there is no strain today which tests much above 30% total cannaboids and there are auto strains which have been tested to contain 30%
