Why would my 400w MH bulb blow when i plug in my ballast?

So i just bought a new 400w digital ballast that is supposed to work for both MH and HPS. I screwed in the MH bulb and plugged it in and it came on for a brief second and it went out, so im guessing the the light blew. So i tried the same thing with the HPS bulb and it worked perfectly. After i saw the HPS bulb worked i tried my back up MH bulb and it also seemed to have blown. Can anyone help me out with my problem?

This is a problem with MH and digital ballasts I think. This happened to me on a quality digital rig. If worse comes to worse then just run the hps for veg. It will work out okay.

There is a reset button on the ballast hit that and let the ballast sit for a while. You don't want to be firing up your bulb while it's still hot etc..
The ballast need to sit a certain way to fire correctly and not trip the safety features. Experiment with it vertical, horizontal, on its side etc.. Also, make sure that MH bulb is recommended for that ballast.

It's a frustrating experience, but you can probably get it dialed in with enough experimentation. I remember I had to lay mine horizontal and on its side.

I tried all 3 light bulbs when the ballast was in the same position. The MH bulb, im pretty sure its the recommended bulb because it came with the grow light kit, has the same wattage, and is the same brand . You can also dim the ballast. It has options for %50, %75, %100, and super lumens. Would starting my MH bulb at %100 cause it to blow?

Tell them your problem and that you are sure you did nothing wrong, and they owe you a new bulb, or exchange the ballast also for new ballast/bulb combo.. if it's a possibility, fuck their heads.

Selling you defect shit.. kick their asses.

in fact I would pay the difference on an exchange and get some other brand shtuff.

What is the wattage of your ballast? If its higher than 400 Watts, that could definitely be the culprit.

Id love to kick their ass but i would probably fuck up my computer cause i bought it off of amazon. But its says on the ballast several times that its a 400w HPS/MH ballast

I've never seen a 400w ballast with a superlumen setting. Do you have an amperage draw indicator anywhere? Like a sticker? (120v 10A) for example.
