I'm just saying if we were more transparent than everyone would take us more seriously.
Look, you have to pay attention. I won't do the work for you.

You really seem clueless.

edit: This is the quote I intended, my mistake, sorry for the confusion.

I haven't seen anything about corruption except for in the Afghan government. Where did you read about all the corruption.

How about coercing allies into "sidestepping" an international ban on cluster munitions? Or covering up for contractors doing dodgy things with young boys. Spying on the UN and other allies? Turning a blind eye to the corrupt afghan shit you mentioned? I'm sure there is much more, but i'm stoned right now, and the wikileaks site is being a bitch, so I can't pull the cables directly.

Not forgetting the infamous "collateral murder" video, and the upcoming Garani massacre video, both of which were buried, rather than investigated.

The main point of the leaks is that the USG goes around the world preaching freedom, democracy, transparency, and generally claiming to be a positive force in the world, whilst telling (and forcing) others to follow it's example. As the cables show, the US is actually in no position to take the moral high ground, and the methods it uses to obtain it's imperialistic goals are corrupt, in and of themselves.

Also, since so much attention is on Assange and the leaks themselves, Bradley Manning's motives have been largely overlooked. Here is a portion of the chat log between him and Adrian Lamo (The cowardly snitch who turned him in).
(02:26:01 PM) Manning: i dont believe in good guys versus bad guys anymore… i only a plethora of states acting in self interest… with varying ethics and moral standards of course, but self-interest nonetheless
(02:26:18 PM) Manning: s/only/only see/
(02:26:47 PM) Lamo: the tm meant i was being facetious
(02:26:59 PM) Manning: gotchya
(02:27:47 PM) Manning: i mean, we’re better in some respects… we’re much more subtle… use a lot more words and legal techniques to legitimize everything
(02:28:00 PM) Manning: its better than disappearing in the middle of the night
(02:28:19 PM) Manning: but just because something is more subtle, doesn’t make it right
(02:29:04 PM) Manning: i guess im too idealistic
(02:31:02 PM) Manning: i think the thing that got me the most… that made me rethink the world more than anything
(02:35:46 PM) Manning: was watching 15 detainees taken by the Iraqi Federal Police… for printing “anti-Iraqi literature”… the iraqi federal police wouldn’t cooperate with US forces, so i was instructed to investigate the matter, find out who the “bad guys” were, and how significant this was for the FPs… it turned out, they had printed a scholarly critique against PM Maliki… i had an interpreter read it for me… and when i found out that it was a benign political critique titled “Where did the money go?” and following the corruption trail within the PM’s cabinet… i immediately took that information and *ran* to the officer to explain what was going on… he didn’t want to hear any of it… he told me to shut up and explain how we could assist the FPs in finding *MORE* detainees…
(02:35:46 PM) Lamo : I’m not here right now
(02:36:27 PM) Manning: everything started slipping after that… i saw things differently
(02:37:37 PM) Manning: i had always questioned the things worked, and investigated to find the truth… but that was a point where i was a *part* of something… i was actively involved in something that i was completely against…
That's pretty fucking corrupt, if you ask me.

Manning explained to Lamo his motive for releasing the material: "I want people to see the truth ... because without information, you cannot make informed decisions as a public."

By the tone of your post, it's obvious that you are as aware as the rest of us that the rape charge was a fit-up, and was engineered by the CIA as a means to ensnare him and smear him. Your type are the fucking enemies of freedom and truth, not the "ememys" you referred to in your earlier post.

BTW, you still haven't replied to my post about your advocation of the murder of someone you believe is a CIA asset? Are you one of those terrorists we keep hearing about?
First off take Osama's cock out of your mouth when you talk to me... Otherwise I will have to bang your girlfriend again.

Im all for transparency and shit but it only works if everybody is transparent. Because we dont live in a Utopian society it is never going to happen. While I enjoy reading some of the cables, cause they exposes some of the sneaky underhanded shit our politicians do, it also affects our governments day to day business as a whole. Its not like we didnt know this kind of shit goes on. James Bond and Jason Bourne were completely materialized out of thin air. Maybe we would find out about more corrupt US politicians if he were to release some other country's cables that we deal with.

Please dont blow me up for this. I hold the minority opinion but I can still see where you other guys are coming from. Just adding my two cents on a pot growing forum.

What makes you guys think he has any other countries information? Thats the second time it's been brought up, even after I pointed it out earlier..

Manning got a hold of the stuff that was leaked because he was working as an analyst inside Iraq during the war. It isn't like Assange had every other countries secrets too but ONLY decided to release the stuff regarding America.

Other countries block regular internet sites, wikipedia is blocked in China, not to mention you'd probably receive the death penalty instead of a 52 year prison sentence like Manning will probably receive. There's much more risk to your life if you're not an American as our country doesn't just openly eliminate people like some other countries, like Saudi Arabia, Iran, North Korea, China, do... So it's harder to get information about those other governments leaked.

If he had it I GUARANTEE it would be leaked too. You see all the shady shit the American government does in these documents, other countries stacks of dirty laundry are probably miles high.

I don't see how anyone could argue secrecy at this point, especially after seeing what has been released. It's clear as day a lot of the shit they keep "top secret" has nothing to do with safety or protection and everthing to do with purpetuating lies and keeping the war machine running, as well as cover ups, coercion, kidnappings, rapes, murders, dude, the list goes on and on.

To anyone arguing the side of secrecy, I'd like to ask - So now that you know the kind of shit that is being covered up by our government under the guise of "top secret" or "safety and security", how could you still think this is beneficial for America at large?

To prevent this retarded point of view from starting, I'm assuming anyone who decides to answer that question is of the opinion that the negative aspect of this story is the American governments actions after each incident occured and not the fact that they got caught doing it. In other words how is committing these crimes that have been covered up by being labeled top secret good for America?

An invasion by any country is unlikely, and one would never be successful. You say you were a servicemember, well, you should be aware of how large and expansive our military might is at the moment.

Would you really invade another country just because the brass tells you it's the right thing to do? IMO, this is what is wrong with today's solder. They only follow orders and don't think for themselves. (though I'm sure that's been a huge problem in the past too)
*sigh*

Anybody who has ever been in the military knows that you can't have soldiers questioning orders and "thinking for themselves". That said, the military taught ME the difference between an unlawful order and a lawful one. If the government says going to war with another country is the right thing to do and you disagree there are a number of options available to you. They may not be ideal, but nobody is forcing anyone to join up or fight for that matter.:blsmoke:
