so what they're saying is in soil and solless, the 20-20-20 works, but in "true hydroponics" it's not recommended
well is hempy considered "true hydroponics"??
because i believe it's soilless and i thought hydroponics was always soilless and i thought anything soilless you treated as hydroponics

confusing stuff lol but i think there is a jacks hydro formula if it doesn't work on hempy's

they tell you why you shouldn't use jacks on that link, its how the N breaks down
someone be correct me if I'm wrong but hempy is considered passive hydro

Is there a sticky on "how to" and the different variations with its pros and cons available? In tired of fighting pythium in dwc. .

Yes hempy is passive hydro.

Nizza's link described Jacks usage really well. The regular is recommended for soil and soilless. With hempy we are growing in a soilless medium. The hydro mix is recommended for environments where the roots are in nothing but water, nft, dwc, areo, bubble, etc. These are all active systems, with pumps airstones etc.

In general with hempy (passive hydro) nothing has to be plugged in.

With all the SCROG mentors on board, I couldn't help but try a little SCROG myself. I took my SWOG (screen way off ground) meant for keeping large spears from falling over, and lowered it over this single Blue Lemon Thai when it was ≈25 days old from seed. Now its 55 days old and in 2nd day of flower. She's just now greening up again after a pH lock-out problem using the Lucas formula but looking like a possible cola maker with all the growth tips. I know my wire spacing is a little large for SCROG (4") but what the hey..with less entanglement I might have the opportunity to lift it back up when colas form since it has adjustable telescoping legs. The medium is coco coir and rock-wool croutons...my "fav" so far.

@ Jela10..... Nice what light are you using for your scrog setup? I always wanted to try scrog but I just can't justify vegging that long vs going from rooted clone to 12/12....btw I have 3 small purple wrecks in dwc I may do a scrog since I have a 400 watter lying around.....correct me if I'm wrong but I read to keep your flowers under the net til about 21 days of flower or when they are done with there initial stretch then let then move them above the net so all you have is just bud above the screen.

Loving the scrog setup Jela.

Sky, I veg my screen to about 60-70% full then flip. After flip I continue to train horizontally under the screen for the first 7-10 days of flower then let them go vertical after that. Of
course it depends on strain, if you have a notorious stretcher reduce the amount of screen coverage and train down a bit longer in flower.

I average about 2-3 weeks of veg time from rooted clone before I flip so there is definitely an additional time factor vs. running a rooted clone SOG. If you are able to veg and LST for a week
or more before the current crop is done you can reduce the amount of lag time between grows to as little as a couple days.

Sky, that's just a 160W Area-51 LED panel....I'll be tossing my other 160W panel in there soon....this strain was sensitive to the light being too close..hence the 1 panel so far. I had to keep it ≈30" above the canopy or the leaves would get crispy. Oh that reminds me, I better turn on the red spectrum now too now that it's flipped...duhhh.

Here's my current set up. It's hortilabs sour star. Not really a sog because I let them get to long and lanky during veg but my next round will be a true sog. They are on day 56. Not that much amber in them. I'll probably let them go for another week or two. I think I may have stunted them in the first 3 weeks of flower because I didn't have a dehumidifier and with lights off the humidity was reaching up to 90.

The other pics are my 4 moms wich I'm about to butcher in the next two days. I'm going to try and clone much as I can to go under 2X600 magnums xxl's. My goal is to put 120 under them 2l style. The front 3 are sour star moms and the one in the back is the cali connections Girl Scout cookies mom all in dwc (my favorite). The other pic is my aero cloner and some gsc in veg for about a week or so wich I'm going to let them veg another two weeks and put them in coco or stink bud jr aero system.

Has anyone given these a try yet?

http://www.growstone.com/

I am going to order a couple bags to try out on my next run. Do a couple tester buckets to compare to a couple regular perlite buckets.

I know this is a graphic provided by Growstone so take how you want, but the air/water ratio looks outstanding on these.

I know a few people running them who adore them. I want to give them a try when I have a little extra money.

i know the growstone come in big hunks and small pebbles, i just don't think it has the ability to wick up the water like coco does

i would think you could mix it, with a good amount of coco pyth because it's fine and may get into the pores of the growstone, i'm sure if you took dry pyth and the stones and shook them up some of the fibers would get into the stone and help wick, from there you could take the pyth/growstone mix and mix in a little bit of small chipped coco husk , with a growstone reservoir, maybe the bigger ones?

just throwing some ideas out there!
the growstone is known to leave powder behind in hydro setups
i don't see why this would matter in hempy, as it would most likely just come out when it drains to waste, i'd love to see a grow with growstone/coco mix

i also think that those are a good source for silica, i'm not positive as to whether it's available or not though to the plant

thats crazy, and great to know, i really didn't test anything with straight growstone, i didn't realize it could wick up like that and i didn't wanna risk losing plants
thanks for bringing this up and addressing that!

i have an e-book that he wrote, not a published book but a collection of his work; very good stuff. He used super soil air pots though; i plan to adapt this to hempy. I think the possibilities are greater with hempy's cause its hydro, and the materials are easy to get ahold of.
his main goal was to produce a handicap type system (easy access) that produced like a vertical setup. i'm pretty sure he hit 2 GPW mark, but it's hard to gauge GPW because of veg time.
hobbes had the best overall intentions and it's too bad he's gone, but hopefully his experiment will live on, he was very ambitious about spreading knowledge and working in groups to solve an ultimate problem; hunger.

he figured if he can hit high numbers with weed, 3rd world countries could use our ideas to get high yielding indoor gardens, and bring sustainability to places that need it

send me your email and ill send you his e-book, i wish i could post it up somewhere. His thread was deleted (big thread) and there was so much good shit on there; luckily it's all backed up in his e-book
he has some out-dated info on his e-book that he goes over and may confuse you, just be aware he was approaching death when he was getting really good at it

he was a guy who used normal household stuff to make an extraordinary grow op, i wish more people knew about him, i considered him an idol of sorts, like everyone here is to me

just also wanted to say thanks everyone for the inspiration and sharing your experiences!

as for hempies JD, i can't really think of a good way to do a hempy air floor... without getting water everywhere. I was visioning some sort of bucket with a bunch of fins coming up. the fins would space the buckets off the floor of the drain table and still allow air through, it's the best idea i can come up with. other than that im still having a hard time getting a good , simple idea
i will blow your minds once i do though; i was on the CUSP of figuring out a sick one , but the idea is on the backburner for a while. this approach is much more KISS and will get into the tweaking once i get a few good harvests..
i've resorted to asking a buddy for a slice; which i will return to him once i harvest my re-vegged hempys

really hoping for a big yield off the big buds!

also anyone who want's hobbes e-book PM me with an email or maybe we could make a thread that allows you to download it; i just don't know how to do it (maybe someone can help
I found this thread while searching for Hobbes old thread! Man that thread was a real eye opener for me in the beginning. It really got me started in canopy management which I still practice diligently. Some day I would love to emulate his room with a light rail and really try to maximize efficiency.

He was a very intelligent and ambitious fella, right down to the last few months of his life. He wasn't himself as he grew closer to passing, but I can't imagine facing certain death as he did. I have wondered about him a few times recently, I'm sorry to hear he has passed but may you RIP Hobbes, thank you for sharing your ideas.
