World Of Hempy

You know guys, when I switched to Hempy I said nothing can be easier. I was wrong, a few weeks into my grow a friend sent me an article on the Lucas Formula. I found it interesting so with a little research I found lucasformula.com. I am now using the GH Maxibloom dry produce at 7 grams per gallon. The only thing extra I may add is Cal/Mag but the Maxibloom has Cal and Mag in it's formula. I have had no nute burn, no apparent deficiency and I am only 10 to 12 days from harvest.
A few weeks back I was talking to my buddy and he said he noticed a nute buildup in his Hempy so I decided to do a flush. With the hole and stopper I put at the base of my buckets this was very easy to do. I plugged the drain hole filled the buckets with pH'ed water and let them sit for about 5 minutes. I then removed the stopper and let the buckets drain, I caught run off from all three buckets and was shocked at the ppm. It was over 1500, I never feed the plants anything over 950 ppm so I ended up flushing them each three times till the ppm was under 150. The funny thing is I've seen no signs of nute stress either lack of or abundance of nutes. I did begin checking my ppm and pH every time I feed and watered from then on. I have not seen anything higher than what I used that feeding. Next grow I believe I will flush the buckets a few times during the grow, at least once during vegging, right before I go to 12/12 and a big flush a few weeks before harvest.
As I said above the only problem I really had was my error during my mainline training I cut too much off just before the start of 12/12. Going to cost me some weight but I am not dissatisfied with the grow overall.

Here are a couple of pics from day 52 of 12/12.

I know they are ugly now, but they are still in good enough shape to finish. I total agree with the UB philosophy of grow lots of green leaves till the end, and normally start with a 15-9-12 in veg and flower with a 14-14-14 just should have thrown out the bottom of the last jar.

Flushing for me doesn't work well for me, using CRF's. This grow is just one more little experiment that didn't turn out the way the vision I had when I started.
Hey Watt, how you been, I think the ladies will be fine, going to give you some dank smoke.
I think every grow is and experiment, well an experience anyway, LOL

When is your harvest? Mine will be between 10 and 16 days. I have one more plant in there now at day 24 of flower, she will get the cabinet to herself when the current batch of ladies finish. Will post a pic of her soon.

@ gr I'm hoping to be done the 1st weekend in May.

Now your rez, I've always wanted to take samples of the rez during the grow. So I really appreciate you posting your results. I'm more interested in what the ph was than the ppm. Did you check the ph and was it still in range? I've always thought that the ppm (conductivity) would be high. There are several other things that can increase the conductivity, like perlite dust, or rock wool hairs, even the carrier salts left behind after the NPK has been pulled out of the feed water, and I'm sure there are several other things that could have an impact on the conductivity. You said that everything looked good prior to flushing, so I'm thinking that the rez was in good condition still. And with the look of those sticky heads it kind of reinforces my thoughts. Very nice grow gr

@ Watt,

Hey buddy, I did check pH and it was good, not what I was putting in but close and for sure in range.
I think the nutes that caused the spike were laying on the bottom of the bucket, those that had not totally desolved and so were not available to the plants.
I agree that the rez was probably in good shape as the nutes were just laying on the bottom, but I will be flushing more often in future grows. I really like the drainage port at the base of the bucket. Have posted pics before but will again.

Thanks for the comments on the grow, going to be small than it could or should have been, but live an learn.

Peace out,

GR

After checking out this guys journal, parts of it got me to thinking. IF you use Air Pots in a hempy fashion, and have closer to 60% coco and 40% perlite in a 5gal airpot, that itself is elevated within a large DWC reservoir, wouldn't that be a perfect root-zone environment? You'd want about 4 air stones below the pot itself and a drainage nob to change res every 1-2 weeks. But if you filled the res to mid perlite level, and watered the coco based on dryness I really think the growth would trump that of hempy or dwc.

In regards to Groffs results, the LED really impressed me. He outdid most HID grows. Although I'm not entirely convinced he wasn't sneaking in some other light for a redder morning and night spectrum, but that may be the weed talking. It definitely takes me one step closer to LED.

I took down Somango in DWC today.

I put both of my mainlined plants into 12/12. One of them is another somango in DWC and the other is kosher tangie in a 2 gal hempy. Both have been topped to 8 mains. I am excited to flower plants that have been mainlined. With the somango I will be able to compare yields and with the tangie I will be able to have some canopy control for this thing showing sativa traits.

Last feeding today for the two Ice and the WW, fed them with 2-45-28 GH KoolBloom dry fromula @ .25 tsp/gal.
This week they will get pH'ed water only starting with a full system flush. I plan on harvesting next weekend, which will be day 64 or 65, will check them good and see if I can carry them a few more days. Right now the Ice plants are about 15 to 20% cloudy, few amber but most still clear. The WW has only a few thrics turning cloudy, most are bright and clear.

Here are the finishing shots of my single Blue-Lemon-Thai that I chopped over a month ago. If you remember, this was my first attempt at SCROG and I’m very pleased with a whopping yield of 8.8oz in a 2.5g bucket. I did put time on the books though with 60days veg and 9.5 weeks of flower. I’ve had to travel a lot recently so just now getting around to sharing. I have two set of shots here to show you their beauty @ 8weeks versus the 9.5week senescence. I’ve grown Purple Kush before but this one came through with some “black” in there. Awesome taste and buzz, even in a vape. This strain fought me the entire grow. Ph, PPM, and even light intensity were things to figure out and “less was better” in each case. Too bad I’ll be shutting down growing for some indefinite time now that this one is finished. I’m having the house appraised/inspected as we prepare to move…

I know that song lyric "Goin' where the climate suits my clothes"

Best of luck with your new lifestyle, and it gives me hope that I too can make that transition in the not too distant future.

ISK, hadn't thought about the outdoor thing. Thanks for enlightening...it appears I would have to keep some critters away based on the deer population.
Watts, new lifestyle is the word, I've worked all my life and it will be feel strange cutting the umbilical chord. Here is a link that can help you out with your decision to retire.

yup, them damn deer will munch down a plant faster than jack the rabbit.

My buddy used a 6 foot wall of chicken-wire to protect his plants, plus a dog to chase away any vermin
