Jela, thanks for the reply, but I was thinking of a second hole, someone said they made more than 1 hole...adding air would be like a mini bubbler in a 2 liter...

Well I just found out saturday my hydro supplier droped all Canna products, said it was a cost issue and they really didn't have that big of a market. So in search of coco again, they told me they were going to go to some kind of Dutch product.

@ everyone, so im drunk now, but besides that, i guess it's up to me to test it out. since i haven't posted up any pics yet i guess my experiment will be the pics that ill post up fist, only if its a legitimate experiment. i use dyna gro nutes and use botanicare coco with espoma perlite. these are all found at a local garden shop. i really hope this experiment helps further the hempy movement :!

@ jela, your coco+ perlite hempy method is a 75%coco 25% perlite with a perlite base yes? how do you think this would do with instead of the 75/25 go straight coco and just use the hempy(perlite--edit) res, and force air up through the coco. i was thinking this might be bad cause its bad to dry out the center of the root mass but not the sides, but at the same time thinking if the water was slowing the air flow through the hempys would it turn out to be good for the hempys( inward air pruning)? as long as i dont dry them out? I know that you showed me your method but i just want some of your input ! also anyone elses even though u may not have a lot of coco exp.!

@ Nizza - When using coco the rule of thumb is to fill the Rez with perlite, due to the weight of saturated coir in the rez on the roots.
There isn't a need to cut the coco above the rez.

I'm currently using a mix of equal amounts of coco coir, coco chunk, & perlite, from top to bottom 1st time experiment,,,, so far so good.

Nizza, It doen't matter what medium I've ever grown in, even soil....when the pots ran dry I noticed a huge growth spurt thereafter. Other growers have noticed the same and laid claim to the "air" factor. I run a variety of mediums these days...plain coco coir above a perlite res was very successful for a year or so but just got a little boring due to it's ease of setup. I really wanted to push the envelope further to eventually match DWC-like yields with the hempy method so I've ventured out into mapito, rockwool grow cubes and now a blend of coco and rockwool chunks. I've never really mixed coco with perlite thought I know growers that do...seems like most of my work has been to remove perlite from the picture all together and demonstrate what the hempy method is capable of. Hempy buckets started out years ago as "all perlite"....then Dali Hempy himself set a new standard with plain coco coir over a perlite res. Tweaking the medium is one of the last frontiers left in the hempy world unless you come up with an innovative method of getting air in the medium otherwise.

Several here, most notably Chaka, run holes all round the container...I think Chaka has an eight-holer (LOL).

ah' my bad jela-- for some reason i thought u mentioned a 75/ 25 mix but it was most probably somewhere else i read, damn im a stoner. Well we will see how this mix goes and i have thought of puting clay pebbles or rockwool snips from cubes into my coco mix , hows it working out jela? i have a few with 10% growstone pebbles 15% perlite 75% coco with perlite resevoirs, and was thinking of if it would work or not, only time will tell! i guess with the coco idea i will go with clay pebbles because i have a shit ton and then use coco to wick up the moisture, with a 3l bucket and that central hole i was talking about. I think it'll be too much air but if i keep thinking of a better idea i hope it will make the hempy records!! :D
the real secret here would be the soil inside making the moisture want to favor the center again, they would be dixie cup soil plants transplanted to coir 3L hempy's at some sort of mix stated above... it would make the air instead of go straight through the middle just go through the bottom middle and then go around the denser part sort of in a ring like manner.. i cant wait to try it :)

Broke down and took a branch off two different from seed crosses to give em a taste simce im letting em go another week. Larger one smells like old cheese dipped in diesel and smaller one smells like a blueberry salad.

Kind of wondering if this photo editing feature makes amber trichomes show. Seems to be about the same amount as when i look through a scope.. Same bud IMG_20130408_022354.jpgIMG_20130408_022225.jpg

Hi guys, This is my first hempy grow and my second grow, I used coco first, didn't turn out to well and someone on RIU suggested hempy, Well, already I have a few issues, (See Pics) Also, what is the right ph for hempy? using dutch pro nutrients, and it's soft water, they are Greenhouse seeds TrainWreck, (Tried DP Blueberries first Grow, What a nightmare of a strain) I'm a little unsure of Symptoms at the moment, what means what, They are on 0.6 EC at the moment with 5.6-5.7 PH but the runoff PH is 6.9. All help appreciated, cheers guys

Great thread by the way!

First off, when you say SOFT water do you mean that it has been through a water softener, or it just has a low mineral content coming out of the tap.

If it's softened water then that is your problem.

If not then I'm willing to bet you have cal deficiency, this will hinder the uptake of N. If your water is real soft (mineral free) then add 4 to 5 ml/gal of cal/mag

Edit: ph seems to be best at + or - .2 of 6.0

First off thanks for the reply, sorry man, I mean it's low in minerals 0.12 EC out of the tap, I have soft water nutes that apparently give what my tap water is missing.

wattsaver have seen u about alot in this thread what do u feed your hempys at ec wise from low to high what do u max it out at ?
also do u let res dry out?

Yes I do let the rez dry between waterings.

I use Osmocote for nutes, just put it in while building the bucket and then just water with ph adjusted water with some cal/mag.

So are you using Veg/Bloom for soft water? I used it on an outdoor plant for awhile last summer and I still had to add cal/mag. Try some on your girls, the new growth will green up again, the old growth may not respond. .6 ec should be enough food for the youngsters, once you get some cal in there they will start to feed again.
