Hi everyone. Rather than taking the originally posted story at face value, I decided to do a little research on my own concerning this seemingly ludicrous claim.

First off, you can always go here, Status of the Navy to find out which ships are deployed and where. Updated daily and from the official navy.mil website.

Right now, there are five Aircraft Carriers Deployed, and if perhaps the "Status of the Navy" page is too vague, I've took a look to see what the ships are up too. This is what I've found:

USS Nimitz (CVN 68) - Is currently in the Pacific Ocean conducting operations off the California Coast. Link

USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72) - 5th Fleet GULF OF OMAN (Nov. 1, 2010) Link

USS George Washington (CVN 73) - East China Sea / Just returned to Yokosuka, Japan Link

USS Harry S. Truman (CVN 75) - 5th Fleet Arabian Gulf supporting maritime security operations and theater security cooperation efforts in the U.S. 5th Fleet area of responsibility. Link

USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76) - Pacific Ocean completing a composite training unit exercise in preparation for an upcoming deployment. Link

Oh, and Stars & Stripes also had an article (posted today) regarding this as well.

Will 34 warships accompany Obama to India?

Come on guys...a carrier strike group only consists of 6 or 7 ships! What this paper from India is describing would be a force of Normandy proportions!

I dont know i have a feeling we are preparing ourselves (army, navy etc etc ) for something. We still have that little disagreement with Iran, and seems like we are still trying to instigate the situation more. I wouldnt be surprised if there would be another war approaching around the corner.

So you are saying we have navy ships sailing in different oceans around the world. Isn't that what the navy does?

And the stars and stripes article says there will NOT be 34 ships going to India with the president.

I spent 1.5 years aboard CVN-72 Abe Lincoln as part of Marine Detachment. I have been aboard both the Nimitz and the Washington. I can tell you from experience that a carrier has far more than 6 accompanying ships. Also I forgot to mention that the Aircraft Carriers are the fastest ships the Navy has. They can do in excess of 70mph in the water.

The Reagan will move to the Persian Gulf when it is done playing in the Pacific, it can get there overnight from off the Coast of Somalia.

I've listened to your crap for a couple of years with no comment, but this bullshit about carriers having a top speed of 70MPH is just way too much. They actually have a top speed between 30 and 40 MPH, fast enough to water ski behind, but not fast enough for freeway speeds. please quit with the lies, some younger Non-veterans could believe you.

Google says something about certain classes having top speed of like 44 knots, which is like 50mph. The elderly do 50mph on the freeway.

Must explain how we went from the Port of Jebel Ali, UAE to the Coast of Mogadishu, Somalia in 21 hours, its 1600 Nautical miles. So 40 mph =35 Knots. Do the math old man.

The top speed of Nimitz class carriers is classified but they officially state it at 30+ knots. I've only briefly been aboard a couple of carriers and have heard many stories of these amazing vessels travelling at or near the speeds NoDrama mentioned.:leaf:
