I don't think he was being racist there. Making a joke about a political point being made by people that might have a tinge of racism, likely. Although I do not find that all birthers are racist. Plenty of white people with out American birth certificates.i recall one particularly salient, nasty moment in the campaign that made me shake my head.

As to the quotes, I don't care. I won't take the mantle of judge over my fellow humans to the nature of their hearts with only a few Internet postings as evidence.
What you showed was strong indications, I'll give you that. But there is solid room for doubt in several, and quotes do no good without the full and proper context missing.
Racism exists. Today, those who are still truly racists deserve our pity as much as our scorn. I've found it to be most common amongst those with little good going for them in their life. If feeling better than someone else is the only comfort they get, then god bless them.
