I believe the more we know the better. While in the service, every country I went to the people seemed to always know at least two languages. Which actually makes us look bad. Now, I do have problems with this as well. In America, with the native language being english, therefore if you come here, you should at least know enough english to order dinner, and vice versa for us when we go to another non-english speaking country. I am decent at spanish, but it pisses me off when I go to Wendy's and I cant understand a fucking word they say. I usually just turn around and walk away. I have no problems at all with other nationalities, but if you are going to be part of an english society, then speak english. I should not have to change my ways and speak their language because they dont know english and they seek to be part of an english society. Dont get me started on when I call tech support, but thats a whole other story.

I would love to speak Spanish.... in fact I am trying to learn with some language software. Of course I bought the one that teaches you the Spanish they speak in SPAIN.... not the Spanish they speak in Mexico. If I ever go on vacation where the language is Spanish... it will be to Spain... not Mexico! Yes it's very similar... but there are differences.

Personally I don't think it's the government's job to tell us our children should speak another language any more then I think they should be telling us our children should believe in god and go to church! Don't they have anything fucking better to do.... like... oh say.... FIX THE ECONOMY!

This is America! The language IS ENGLISH! There is nothing wrong with being bi-lingual.... but I DO have a problem with the taxpayer expense to print all the forms in all the different languages! IMO... all forms paid for with US CITIZEN tax dollars should be printed in English only!

Obama should have kept his trap shut!

Maybe you need a history lesson, the USA stood and watched the holcaust happening for 3 years before finally joining the war after being attacked on their own sovriegn soil.

However, the US is english speaking as a whole, so therefore, if any one would like to become part of this society thats great. But, they should meet certain criteria. Get a job, pay taxes, be productive speak the local language just like every other hard working American. I think it is very unfair to impose a minority culture onto a majority culture. Sure, its there if I choose to experience another culture. But for me to walk into my local fast food restaurant and the person behind the counter does not speak english and I cant order a fucking frosty is just fucked. If they want to be part of my society - fine, then they must adopt our culture not the other way around.

You are correct, the english language did not show up here until 400 years ago and you are correct the language was the native tribes languages whatever that may have been. But this is America, not just a big open expanse of land. Its America so the native language IS english, not a tribal language. It became America 400 years ago.

True, but due to the evolution of our society it has created a neccessary level of accountability for immigrants. Slaves did not ask to be brought here, they were brought here against their will or false promises. I am not saying we did things the right way when our ancestors migrated here but thats what we have to deal with now, we must keep pushing forward and learn from the past, not live in the past.
