Trump Calls Criticism of His Coronavirus Response a "Hoax" as Concerns Grow: A Closer Look

Seth takes a closer look at the president calling criticism of his response to coronavirus a "hoax" as concerns grow about the government’s handling of the outbreak.

Lets see how fast it spreads in the most densely populated part of the country, could look like some of those pictures from China's hospitals packed with people and chaos in a couple weeks.

States should be making provisions for many more mail in ballots this fall if the pandemic starts up again in a big way. Donald and the GOP will of course use this to try and suppress the vote and cheat in anyway they can. Red states will probably restrict mail in voting options and blue states will expand them. Vote and die will be their message!

They don't count mail in unless it's close.

The Fed just hit the coronavirus panic button

New York (CNN Business)The stock market -- and President Trump -- really wanted the Federal Reserve to cut interest rates as soon as possible because of concerns about coronavirus. Everybody got their wish.
The Fed blinked Tuesday morning, slashing interest rates by a half of a percentage point in an emergency rate cut.
The timing of the cut is a bit surprising considering that Fed chair Jerome Powell and US Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said just a few hours earlier the US and other G7 nations were prepared to take action but stopped short of saying something was imminent. And the Fed has a regularly scheduled policy meeting in just a little more than two weeks.
But experts said Tuesday that the Fed had to act now. It was the only way to reassure investors the central bank was taking the threat seriously.

"The Fed could not ignore that there would be a real economic impact from the coronavirus," said Tony Fratto, a partner at Hamilton Place Strategies and former Treasury Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs in George W. Bush's administration.

Federal Reserve announces first emergency rate cut since the financial crisis
"For the Fed to do that and wait until the next policy meeting would not be credible. Things are moving too quickly," he added.
Fratto said the onus is now on health authorities, Congress and the White House to "step up" and follow the Fed's lead. More urgent action is needed to ensure the coronavirus does not spread and that proper funding is in place to handle the crisis, he added.

Just did a grub run to the local supermarket, there was lots of hand cleaner on the shelves and the shelves of food and other essentials were fully stocked. There's concern and some people are clearly stocking up though. There was a hand clearer station with the shopping carts and I slathered some on and wiped the handle of the cart with the rest.

You (we) are about to pay the price for callous and incompetent leadership, he fucked this up before it even began and he fucked it up after it began and continues to fuck up and cripple the US national response. If this gets away from the health authorities it might end up being a fucking disaster in the spring and perhaps a bigger tragedy this fall during election season, when the ads will be running reminding people of Trump's inept and stupid response to something that is killing them and their families and making near everyone else sick and pissed. He will pay at the polls for this bullshit, the worse it gets, the worse for the economy and the worse for Trump in November. I'm in Canada and I'm pissed that this stupid prick let this plague get an uncontained foothold in North America because he didn't like Obama and killed the US pandemic response while cutting the CDC budget. He also appointed incompetent unqualified assholes to head the response with orders to muzzle the doctors and scientists

WHO chief warns 'we are in uncharted territory' as number of coronavirus cases worldwide passes 90,000

Hong Kong (CNN)The head of the World Health Organization (WHO) said that public health officials are operating in "uncharted territory" as they combat the spread of the novel coronavirus, which has infected more than 90,000 people across 73 countries and territories as of Monday evening.
The virus has spread to every continent except Antarctica since it was first identified in December last year in the central Chinese city of Wuhan. Medical workers are now battling deadly outbreak clusters in South Korea, Iran and Italy, while other countries are working furiously to avoid a similar fate by readying public health authorities, alerting their citizens and enacting travel restrictions to affected areas.

To date, there have been 172 deaths reported outside mainland China, raising the global death toll to 3,115.
Several nations that have seen cases are putting in place measures to limit the virus' spread: closing schools, encouraging remote work and canceling or scaling back public events, just to name a few.

The WHO has so far held off on classifying the incident as a global pandemic, but has warned it is a possibility in the near future.
"We have never before seen a respiratory pathogen that is capable of community transmission, but which can also be contained with the right measures," said Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the director-general of the global health watchdog.
