but I want that happy joy bullshit.... :[
It's an illusion bro. Happiness isn't something you can consistently "have", it's there as a highlight to the depressing moments in life. More than that, these days, happiness is a marketing strategy: people will do anything to reach this holy-grail of permenant happiness, but happiness is like liquid - ebbs and flows.

You can have happy days, weeks even, sure, until the roller-coaster starts the downward spiral again. It's just as well too, imagine if you were truly happy all the time, how long till it got boring? Good/happy times are there to balance the dark/shit times. It's how everything in life works.

Everything is cyclical.

the last thing u said I think was spot on.. adapt and over come... really adapt to overcome... even realer adapt to survive..
The problems start when people feel bad about being animals, or think humans are "above" base, animal urges etc,,.

We're not better than that: We're just animals cursed with enough intelligence to be conceited and ambitious.

I don't follow the action reaction shit.. can you elaborate lil bit on that for me.. you have caught my interest
Actions are mindful and intentional

Reactions are unintentional...

An examined, mindful and intentional life will get you places :)

Fuck therapy, and don't let people gnaw at you by telling you you're wrong.

In a world as fucked up as the one we have to live in, there are *plenty* of fuck-ups. Don't buy into the happy-joy bullshit you see and hear around you. Only a retard could be happy in a world where the poor can't got a foot in the door whist rich cunts sit on their fat arses living off the interest their money earns.

If you weren't angry or depressed you'd be just another average pleb: telling yourself it's great to be alive on a planet where children are raped by sad old perverts, animals are treated like things and nature is being demolished as we type here.

Fuck-A everyone should be unhappy. Those that aren't are shallow, superficial and blissfully ignorant. I hate people like that.
The Dalai Lamba is full of shit.

Who would seriously listen to fake, fortune-cookie bullshit from some old man who's spent his entire life sitting on his arse doing fuckall but reading books and being waited on like the chosen one.

Psychobabble is bullshit too: Human beings are animals. We react and adapt to the environment we are in. That's the beginning and end of it all.
Speaking of a breath of fresh air - aren't you Mr. positive today.

And humans are a bit more advanced than your average grasshopper or gopher - we can manipulate our environment and our "self" to dramatically improve our situation, most "animals" cannot.

Like Momma said.

I get what ur saying and agree with a lot of it.... I doubt being happy all the time would get boring... no room for boredom when ur happy id think..... I just don't have longer then brief moments of happieness.... like real brief... then its back to the bullshit... so if u guys are suggesting to like program myself to be happy no matter what like its just a state of mind I don't think I can do that

And look what we've done with that ability to manipulate: wiped out half the worlds natural habitats, dug up the earth and used it to polute the planet to the point we now have so much carbon in the air heat is being trapped in the atmosphere, we've fucked the entire planet so everyone can have a shiney new car, get fat and buy everything from the air-conditioned comfort of our local convenience stores.

This is where I wonder whether animals - who can't change their environment - are superior to humans *because* of their inability to build and plot and scam. Animals might be less "intelligent", but they are 100% eco-friendly, and if this planet only had "lower" animals it would be a much cooler, cleaner, healthier place to live.

Animals kick arse! /animal love!

All you really need to worry about is cutting down on doing things that will make you feel guilty. Another thing animals aren't cursed with that: guilt.

You'll not get an argument out of me on your stance on this subject.
Humans are a plague upon this planet and all its life (including other humans).
We will fuck it up and it will be unlivable for eons after we're gone.

I don't see how it relates to Chi's personal struggle though.

Happiness all the time seems unrealistic. I believe in trying to realize that there are good times and bad times and to appreciate the good while trying to minimize the bad.

Survival often requires it and once you flip that switch it's hard to turn it off.

In regards to the discussion of the Dalai Lama while I respect the man Tibetan Buddhism is not for me. I find that I agree with Chan and Daoist philosophies more. Pacifism in the face of oppression doesn't work for me. Helping others can mean protecting them.

Well you wouldn't think you were particularly happy if it was constant, because it would become "normal" ... back down to adaptation: At first, you'd feel happy as a down-syndrome tard, then you'd settle into it, and be discontented with just being happy. It's this marketing bullshit telling everyone they're abnormal if they're not happy all day every day: you gotta dismiss that shit, because nobody is happy all the time, even down-syndrome tards have spastic fits if their pens aren't all the same colour or whatever.

The secret to reducing depression, is to embrace the "cycle", and possibly do things whilst you're having a happy moment that will extend that happy moment, while realizing as I said above, that happiness is liquid and cannot be held onto. Don't worry though, the "happy" peak in the cycle will be back soon enough. Yeah.

Oh and if you're kicking or starving you dog or otherwise abusing it, stop spong that, and let him/her sleep with you at night. I had a toy poodle when I was a kid I used to kick clean across the yard, like airbourne flying like a football. I still feel farken rotten about that, so I would advise against being nasty to innocents. There're plenty of arseholes amoungst the human populus to abuse, and the guilt of being nasty to an animal sticks with you for years. :(

Words are just words, sadly.

I can tell you one way to up your mood/happiness levels, but it's pretty obvious.

Simply do something nice for someone. Could be having a play with your dog, buying a gift for your woman or mother or twlling some down-syndrome tardo that their pens look real pretty all matching coloured. Anything you like that's nice, to anyone you feel like being nice too.

Doesn't have to be tacky shit like flowers or chocolates either. Could be anything. Just do it. One nice thing a day, or per week, will make you - oddly - feel better. I don't quite see myself why being even mildly nice to someone else makes me feel good, and I don't do it very often, but it works when I do.

my past haunts me.... my present plauges me... haven't told you guys a lot of the other shit.... for instance ..... I remember 3 of my unkles my father, and grand father beating me with belts when I was like 3-4 it had to be that time because my lil brother wasn't born yet... they hit me with both ends of the belt even the metal part... I don't know what I did to deserve that.. I remeber we had a huge dinning room dinner table I tried to hide under.... it didn't help... my mom came from the basement were she was doing laundry while it was happening ... I remember grabbing her leg crying in my native language because I didn't learn English until kindergarten to help me... she couldn't do nothing for me... I was beaten longer... the metal part of the belt cut into my back and thighs... I remember my skin was peeling for about almost a week after.. I rmeber being angry at my mom for not helping me... years latter when I was 9 she told me she couldn't do anything to help me or they would have beat her.... I was only 9 but I understood what she ment and that she was right... AT 9 YEARS OLD... I had to grow up fast brothers
