Ended up making a soup/stew thingy out of left over brisket , chucked it in the cast iron camp oven
with some , onion , cauliflower , potato , left over roast chicken from yesterday , parsley , bay leaf , a little paprika , salt n pepper ,
oh yeah and some chopped cos lettuce with heaps of water , turned out a treat !
I cooked it for 13 hrs , i had to keep burning wood on the fire to supply the hot charcoal to cook it .
Hot charcoal layed in a hole , then camp oven sits on top , cover sides and top of lid with charcoal .
Then buried with top soil from the hole i dug .

As young men we used to go smoking, drinking and burning great campfires in the woods.
Some nights I would say, " That fire is perfect for grilling."
A huge bed of hot wood coals from the nights festivities.
When it was time to go home, we usually just pissed on them when we left.
In time we started buying hot dogs or something to cook b4 we went home.
Good times.

Hahaha The good ol days , we used to just sit around fire and drink aswell , then cook on a portable bbq,
Makes no sense now , we had perfect coals to cook on .

bolognese with herby dumplings. since my gf is anti gravy i have to make do with dumplings in bolognese. still good but not the same.
Meatballs in a meat sauce. Score!

First day on the new job today. so dinner for me is a packet of smoked salmon and some ramen. Think i can accept losing my home cooking for a £19k pay cheque as a kitchen assistant though :) Maybe i'll place that fish order i've been meaning to place for about 2 year now :)

For some reason i got it in my head that they were meatballs covered in cheese in bolognese :D that would ust be great!

I'm not doing what i love, i'm doing whatever i can do for a pay day. working on the assumption i get into uni, then it's only for 6 months, and i find out about uni in around 3 weeks, so who knows what will happen. Havn't got a contingency plan yet, but like fuck i'm gonna be a chef for a career. Better ways to waste my life than that. and i say that even though i have all the requirements. God knows how chefs who actually value a social life manage to do what they do.

Ha. Maybe. but they'd have to be a chef or a colleague :p One of the worst things aout being a chef. You get a day off, you fancy doing someone, ah shit, it's a weekday, everyone else in the world is at work. Doh.

I love cooking, i love food, but a chef lifes is not for me. Alas at present, i don't have tens of thousands of pounds to get my helicopter license. Still tempted to join the RAF, get my license, and bug out after the min service is done. Used to fly a little single prop out of a local RAF base when i was about 16, was bloody brilliant, but i seem to have more of an affinity towards helicopters :)

not a bad plan but the cheese would disintegrate into the sauce probably.

get what you mean though, my gf often says why don't you apply yaself and do some fine dining shiz but i told her unless your dealing with wankers in michelin star gaff's the money's crap and the hours abysmal. not saying it's not rewarding and you can't make a decent living but it's hard graft.

what did you apply for at uni?

I gave up on a social life when I decided to cook for a living. I cant really stand people, anyway...Not to mention, people generally can't stand me either.

Cheese melts into the sauce? You say this like it's a bad thing :D

For sure. Unless you're goal is to become a famous chef, or open your own restaurant, i've never seen the appeal of being a chef, other than when you have a chefs table, or cook for a small audience. If you find a professional place, sure the money is "good" in terms of comparative pay, e.g i'm on almost 19k at minimum wage. and sure that's a great figure, but the work is long, hard, and tiring. My last place, i'd do 14 hours without food or a break, and this place, it seems pretty fantastic in terms of professional atmosphere, but 8 hours before food and a break is basically the rule. most folk would throw a fit if they found it was 1pm and they weren't allowed a lunch break.

I was originally going for clinical psychology in an occupational background, but changed it last minute to business and management. should i end up doing what i'd like to do with psychology, i'd need at least 10 years in management to be capable of the job, so figured get a business degree, then 5 years on get a psy degree on the side. And worst case, is i can use the business degree to aid me in creating my own business which is also a plan. Although with 4 out of 5 having rejected me, there are bigger worst case scenarios. But hey, i've applied to some of the best schools in london with 2 poor A levels, i'll take what I get. Basically trying to get accepted on my work history and personal statement alone as a mature student :D No point not trying.

Haha, i'm little different to you then. But none the less, i get that day off and i out of the blue think, i really want to see X, but nope. For me though, the worst thing is K is a whiles away. So when she comes to visit and i can't get days off, i say bye at 9am, and don't see her again till midnight when I then have to say night i need to sleep to do it again tomorrow. The plus side is you never have time to spend your money or time to enjoy anything you might spend it on :)
