giving defoliation during flower a try

I hear ya. I really don't know what in the hell folks are doing around here! Seems to be bro science than actual experience to me.
Well they're doing something but science it is not. The only reason I ever came on these sites was to read all those funny posts where people say "help' I'm freaking out I'm so nervous I don't know what to do (as if their own lives are in imminent danger) my plants are yellowing so I tried watering more, when that didn't work I gave it more bloom food, when that didn't work I flushed the plant" (yes flush whatever nitrogen is left in the plant right out the bottom of the pot, smart!) and then they come running to you for help and when you tell them they need a more balanced nutrient they tell you you're wrong...yet they came to you for advice in the first place.

Dip it in melted candy apple goo and you have the perfect RIU Halloween Sucker.

Original recipe makes 15 candied suckers for the RIU newbie crowd:
  • 15 thoroughly raped plants

  • 2 cups white sugar

  • 1 cup light corn syrup
  • 1 1/2 cups water
  • 8 drops red food coloring
Directions
  1. Lightly grease cookie sheets.
  2. In a medium saucepan over medium-high heat, combine sugar, corn syrup and water. Heat to 300 to 310 degrees F (149 to 154 degrees C), or until a small amount of syrup dropped into cold water forms hard, brittle threads. Remove from heat and stir in food coloring.
  3. Holding lollipopped bud by its stick, dip in syrup and remove and turn to coat evenly. Place on prepared sheets to harden.
Don't forget plenty of nutrients that are very high in P!! Also make sure to have no nitrogen as it will taste bad and require multiple flushes! Haha

Unbelievable. End rant.

If someone thinks they can produce a more full tree than what I pictured here using their special "defoliation method" I would love to see so.
What strain? I might have those. Now what's the dried weight and THC content? How much light? What size pot? You want apples and apples??? I test all the time. One against the other. I test when I know the results just to prove to others.
Very nice looking low leaf sativa's. Let's see what you've done with Indica's.

These are both feminized white widow grown from seed from the same seed company.

Now I haven't heard this. But that would def support defoliation as a good technique. I want to read that aticle do you have a name for it so i can google it up? I think defol has a lot of advantages little as well as big advantages.
hightimes mag dec 2014 page 117 of course hightimes is probably wrong

Those don't show your point. Ever smaller towards the bottom.... And your pics I've seen show only top cola, unless that's all you grow. And your pics are of sativa's. Let's see your buds on Indica's. And not just the tops...
Huh? Not only do you lie but you don't know a sativa from your typical mutt...... shit-fer-brains.

And your pics are of sativa's.
For those who have never grown a sativa and who's MO is to hang a sign on a pig and call it a dog.....this is what real sativas look like. I gifted a few people with Dalat Vietnamese sativa sourced by a helicopter pilot friend during the Vietnam war. My bud in Santa Cruz posted a few pix at the Riddle site Oct. 2 of my Dalat. They are 8' tall now and flowering well. They outgrew his greenhouse forcing him to move them outdoors.

Gucc1, If it is worth anything, upon following this thread, I have conditioned 3 non-gender strain specific indica from seed, DWC on 10/9/2014, ph5.9-6-5, Light.veg GH nutes T5 florescent,
Plant 1 Control- untouched, leaves damaged still on plant,DSCN2039.JPG noticible differences, larger trunk, greener leaves under canopy, new growth still relative to age,size.DSCN2040.JPG
Plant 2, lightly groomed, leaves appearing dead to stem and badly damaged leaves removed ,DSCN2041.JPG, noticible diferences, lighter coloring, under foliage relative to age size, smallest trunk of three.DSCN2042.JPG
plant 3, if its ugly remove itDSCN2043.JPGNoticible differences, Not as full, however undergrowth a tad taller, lighter coloring, medium trunk.

So based alone without knowing the gender, other than the trunk size, which is made relative by the over-all height and weight of the plant, or a possible explanation may be a male plant.
Coloring was definately affected, non gender excluded, however undergrowth appears to be longer in both trimmed plants.
So take from it what you will, personally, the control plant looks like hell, so I will see in the next month or so... Good luck mate..

i love how everyone is so extreme about defoliation - cut all leaves or cut none. Who gives a fuck? Go do it and see what happens. I don't see anything wrong with strategic pruning for airflow / prevent mold, and removing dead growth, etc...but if you're just cutting healthy leaves off because someone said you can get a bigger yield then you'll prob be disappointed. In my limited experience defoliation has only resulted in slowed growth with no noticeable improvement on bud size / density or anything like that..idk ...trying to tell an anti defoliation guy to defoliate (or a defoliation advocate not to) is like trying to convince an atheist to go to church...what's the point?

what's the point?
The point is to prevent others who are still doubting or just starting to make a choice between atheist and church from taking what is generally bad advice. Was for me anyway, initially... Sometimes refuting invalid claims is just part of that. Which has been done over and over and changes nothing so yeah it's not like these discussions here are going to settle the argument. Apparently some people need to remove leaves to get yields others get without having to remove them. So be it.

What does this have to do with my comment? I said let see some Indica's. You are delusional. You showed those old pic awhile ago.... Not your pots. So what is the point? To show sometime in your life you saw a plant and took a pic. Your pics are at this friends place or that. And any room you've shown is crap. Where are multiple plants in same picture. And not babies.

What separates the men from the boyz is their background, their experiences and education. You only find a hoard of myths and misguided paradigms in general cannabis forums like RIU. Smart and experienced growers know better. It's a class of growers who have migrated to private forums like Riddle as an aside.

The separation of ideas and prescribed school of thought is quite radical when you compare the "normal" world of horticulture with "wrong is right and right is wrong" cannabis forums. By "normal" I'm talking farmers, educators on the college level, greenhouse managers, vineyard and fruit orchard managers, nurserymen raising thousands of stock to sell to the Home Depots of the world. They don't embrace stupid practices found in cannabis forums - using a wet paper towel to germinate a seed, broad based defoliating (not talking pruning for the sake of wood and crop management). They don't complicate or confuse botanical practices and they're not in it to sell snake oils to an ignorant and young target group.

I'm beginning to think this group psychology is a weak attempt to defy and turn against what is perceived as Authority on a botanical basis. Look at the Politics section, it's full of anti-authority types, cop haters, wacked out contrarians and such. Just a thought.....

I like the horticultural authorities like Texas AgriLife and the farm extension agents. They seek the truth and are non-partisan.

germing in paper towels is great for people that don't want to waste rapid rooters, pots, soil, whatever, on seeds that don't pop.

this guy seems like a bit of a fruit... but I agree with a lot he says.
"there's the way we think plants should grow, and then there's the way plants really do grow."
