We keep trying, but someone just flies in every time, calls people racist and derails like a motherfucker.

Even hard lefties and righties have been having proper discussions until someone wakes up from their drunken stupor and shits their "Stormfront" bullshit all over the place (rumour has it, someone favours the floor of fast food establishments, tho).
