here is something a bit different it is a hempy habanero
Presumably this would be true once the roots had reached down to the res, I'm only just getting the second set of leaves appearing on the better developed plants. This discussion has been floated around on this thread a few times, but IME I have noticed the best growth
when I allow the buckets to dry out considerably between waterings.
Roots before shoots! If they are that small, it could be a couple to three weeks depending upon the size of your container (forgive me if you have said - i will go back and read). Some stall longer than others, which is of little comfort, I'm sure. Hope your Hempy venture goes better than my hydro did! They might arrive to the race late, but I think you'll be pleasantly surprised at the race they run! Don't stress too much. I hate making the girls "punch a clock" as well. Deadlines SUCK!Presumably this would be true once the roots had reached down to the res, I'm only just getting the second set of leaves appearing on the better developed plants.
A couple are just sat there with their cotyledons and no true leaves. I'm just hoping they're really striving for root development in favor of leaf, but it seems a little like wishful thinking...
2 litre bottles, which I appreciate is not ideal for a sprout in a Grodan plug. I would have preferred to 'pot up' a few times, but was advised that since getting finished and growing from seed were considerations, I may actually be better off going straight to final pots.Roots before shoots! Hey HollyD,Holy cow, I've just finished reading through this whole thread and WOW. Birth, death, comedy, tragedy, and the triumphant retun of our hero. An epic tale in a thread about a fancy flowerpot.
I have a few questions now that I have made it here:
1. I'm getting ready for my first hempy grow. Would the experts still recommend coco over a perlite res, or is a mix of coco and perlite for that top layer the preferred medium at this point? Is the jury still out?
2. It seems that nobody is recommending 20-30% runoff at this point, but it still seems that some runoff is advisable. Has there been a consensus on this? I am thinking maybe 10% is a good amount to shoot for?
3. Has anyone tried using pH'd water as the beginning of their watering? In other words, if, say, you're going for 25% runoff (to keep the math easy) and the res holds a quart, pouring 4 ounces of water first and then your quart of nutrient solution. That way you'd get a small flush every time you watered, plenty of runoff to pull oxygen through the medium, but you wouldn't be wasting nutrients since the water part of the pour would be your runoff.
Thank you all so much for all the posts. As a beginner, every one of these 416 pages has been invaluable.
Grow medium is a matter of personal preference in my opinion. Hempys are so versatile I've even seen some outstandingHoly cow, I've just finished reading through this whole thread and WOW. I have. back in the day I tried all organic hempy's with teas etc. .tbh ..I found it messy and attracted small flies to the grow-room. Plants sure loved it, but because I was running so many small plants that each required feeding I settled on regular inorganic nutes with micro's (GH Flora series).Anyone ran liquid orgains or teas in hempy
Many peeps have had success running straight coco, there shouldn't be a problem with aeration. it's like 'stoneslacker' said earlier, Hempy's are so versatile, the substrate pretty much comes down to preference. One of the benefits of added perlite is that it allows the feed to pour through the Hempy bucket quicker/easier.Awesome, thanks, you guys. I've got the buckets full of coco now but there's nothing growing in them, so it's easy to change that mix. Glad I got to the end of the thread before it was too late!
Love how you've got that canopy so even, that's efficiency right there. As promised earlier, some pics from my current grow. I have 3 plants in individual scrog buckets
under 250w HPS. I sprayed some clones with colloidal silver to reverse them and pollinated a few buds on
each. I also ran a mini-mainline along with some clones of the 3 main plants to run some feminized crosses
to play around with.
Shitty pics, one of the kids must have my good camera somewhere.

Wow sorry for the length of that post, I am still trying to work out the new image posting since the changeover like 6 months ago.
They look real good buddy. I think there's defo some benefits in having them in the final bucket from start. .. For one, they'll be sending their main taproot straight down looking for that res, should actually make them settle in much quicker. So far 5 out of 5 germed here.
