A game changer?

Thats funny, i know a bunch of university grads that use weed as a study aid. One has add and he smokes nonstop at work. Idk how but he does. I dont think the guys going to get government to cover the bill though....and to me this story seems a little fabricated to me. Call me a crazy but its pretty kushy.

agreed....don't see the gov covering it too soon for the actual sick....
though Veteran's/cops are making some headway

“At the same time from the insurance company’s perspective, it actually saved money because my sleep medication from the U.S. was $15 a day, my pain medication was $10 a day [and] my mood medication was $20 a day.”

As I've said before, this is what it will ultimately boil down to...

Cancer patients should get it covered. I know the canadian medical system well and it rocks. Theres no way that an appitite enhancer and a pain drug, and anti nauseant, shouldnt be free if its wanted. When cancer patients start feeling the full effect of the treatment sometimes frozen foods are all they want to consume, like a popsicle or an icecream.

While I agree with you that cancer patients who cannot afford their medicine should get it for free, why stop there? Other conditions may not be terminal but the symptoms are no less debilitating and can be controlled with pot. Canada does not consider the financial burden on the sick as a reason to provide compassionate care...the only ones entitled to free weed are the military and RCMP....taxpayer funded, of course. Our medical system, while touted as being one of the best, is actually a joke. Sure, it's almost free, but that doesn't help when you have a wait list years long. I'm 5 years into a 12 year wait for a new knee, unable to work and I just turned 52. If I had been covered by wcb or private insurance it would have been done.

Well if twelve years is too long to wait for a free knee you can come down to the states and pay for a new knee anytime.

12 years for a knee, time to get your doctor to send you to another province. I never hear of that long wait times in Alberta when I used to live there..... being in Sask now ...... seems it's also as fast for specialists

i'd raise a bit of a stink as well. maybe see your MP or MLA if it's really bad. my Mom is waiting but her knee isn't bad enough to be put on the list. i think it's 3 years or something crazy like that but not 12...wow. she's in Alberta

Riiiight? It seems a little exagerated, like the original post ;)

They say it's because of the 'life expectancy' of the knee replacement...they only want to do it once. I said fuck it...stopped seeing doctors all together and I'll die with the same parts I was born with! lol

nothing exaggerated what-so-ever. They put me on cpp disability at 47 instead of doing it. I'm sure I could raise a stink and get it done sooner, but it took two years just to get it to see the orthopedic surgeon...I'm done with doctors.

well too bad for them having to redo it down the road..... like in 10 years the medical advancements in hip knee etc replacement will be even better. but depends on the person and operation ..... if you feel it will make your life better and it should or you shouldn't go through with it... ya know..... but like back surgery ..... when they can give me more than a 50% chance then I may consider it

So that original post doesnt seem a little "too good to be true" to you?

not really. some insurance companies cover weird stuff while some others don't. i was told by mine that if it has a DIN, it's covered.
some insurance cover private clinics & some don't. it all depends on who your coverage is through.

I've been waiting for a year now just to see a foot doctor for my rolled ankle.
You guys should seriously come and pay for healthcare in the states. I dont get it, where you guys are coming from on this one. I always had the best expiriences with canadian healthcare. Broken this, sick from that, pnemonia, whatever, in and out, thankyou come again. No bill. My buddy got an mri in the states that cost him 20 thousand dollars, without even being helped, just photographed. How much was your diagnosis vina? Its 300 per x ray photo. Just sayin.

it may be free here but you pay for it with time. CannaReview's situation is common. if you need to see a specialist-you have to wait. my wife was on a waiting list for over 3 years before she was seen
if it's a quick fix or an emergency, you get fast tracked but if it's hip or knee, you wait to see the specialist nad then if they think you should be put on "the List" then you wait...and wait
at a private clinic, you'd be done within 2 weeks...but you have to pay out of pocket. double edged sword-get it done and pay or stay in pain and wait to be seen through the regular channels. they might not see it as life threatening but it is absolutely quality of life threatening. how do you function for those years while you wait?

Well my cat scan was done two days after my emergency room visit for my back since I couldn't walk because of my herniated disk. My wife had to do an MRI for possible cancer and she was in with in a week and was in surgery two weeks later. My wives 95 year old grand ma just started to get jaundice and there's already a CAT scan appoitment in two weeks for her even the walk in clinic doctor (he's usually useless) phoned in after hours with test results.

So for life threatening situations you get fast action but minor stuff you have to wait. It does suck but its a trade off.

You lay on a pillow full of money that you saved and get drunk. Just kidding man. I feel your pain guys, just know that you all have it much better than the U.S. As far as healthcare goes. The frickin hospitals down here are the nicest buildings in town. Stupid.
