Yea I know a guy that's a real good grower, knowledge and skills. But he's trying out those cheap Chinese LEDs,the ones if you buy enough they will even customize the cases for you. Can't convince him that there is a big difference between them and a quality unit.Grab a pair and point to the troll.

yeah he got these kind wholesale, paid 200 a pop so he should be able to smoke some unsuspecting craigs sucker and break even. I'm trying to sell him on lec. These lights are really amazing.Yea I know a guy that's a real good grower, knowledge and skills. This is the gist of your question so let's answer it without bias. Bulb mix -vs- LED mix? They can both be fine tuned for whatever the desired spectrum. Intensity? They can both be packed in to the point of over saturation. Either HID or LED can thrown down enough photons to make a plant wither.Im talking about grams per square foot, meter whatever.
I prefer the sun systems. Compact, ready to go out of the box but was considering one in my luxor hood that I packed out of here. I figured the reflector would probably be to big for the 315 but great for a higher wattage lec , I think it was PSU that was talking about a 600 watt single lamp lec in the works but it's been in the works for years so I'm not holding my breath.
I'd say you have a pretty good handle on things, good growing to you. Things go off the rails around here quite a bit,as long as it's productive talk I don't think it's all bad unless you want to keep to only one specific subject. This thread got carried away quick. I've figured unless my circumstances change (which they may do) there's no point making the change for flower. I will however be purchasing one for veg as it will allow me to do away with the air cooling hid will require.
On a side note here's something cool for the people chatting about cdm

Really !Really? So all the buds I've grown under hps have been flavorless, odorless and devoid of thc? LMFAO!
This was the most helpful post. Thank you. I am however restricted by space, and that's it really.Wow... This thread...
So @Blue brother , I use vero or cxb for everything now, but see no reason to upgrade from HID if it's cold where you are. In a cold environment, you will have to generate the waste heat using heaters anyway.
Cxb2530 3000k 80cri u2 bin will crush a DE HPS or LEC system in terms of quantity photons produced per dissipated watt (2.4uMol/J vs ~1.9uMol/J of LEC), and efficiency (49% vs 40%). The people who say otherwise are either too jealous to admit it, or not competent enough to make their own, and too jealous to admit it.
However, if you converted to cxb in a cold climate, you could increase yield by increasing your total area footprint, and simply having more lights for the same input power, then you'd end up with the same heat. So yes, you could yield more, but not from the same area.
What ever you do make sure you get a quality light I bought a good light but not the best and it worked great but make sure you buy from a company that holds up to their warranty. Now I diy cob led now and I'd say it would kick the shit out of any HPS watt for watt. I was cheap and bought some Mars 2 panels and like I said before they're good but not great and they warranty isn't all that great because you have to send the heavy ass panels back to get repaired and they weigh like 26 lbs or you fix the burned out diodes yourself. They will send them to you for free. How I know it just happened to me but luckily I had made up my mind and already made 6 413-433 watts Cree CXA 3590 panels.A lot of insightful posts here lads but let's not turn this into a dick swinging contest. The only real answer I want is whether an unlimited amount of led in a given area will beat an unlimited amount of hid in the same Area. Yield/area only.
im acctually decided on buying a small led for my veg cab. I do understand they are very efficient in some ways. I understand the reason why people buy them and I understand the reason I'm about to buy one. But I also understand why I use hid lighting and for me to change to led for flowering it would need to be for one reason only.... Higher yield over a the same area. Space is my only limiting factor.
You are a moron. Give a fuck, I don't either.Really !
And of course you can laugh as much as you like ..
Have you ever grown weed ,using LEDs ,dude ?
Let me guess ..
No .
Easy guess .
'Cause if you had ,you would knew all about it ...
I've been into HID lights growing ...
Comparing to Solid State lighting ?
Yes ,the herb from every single HID grow seems "flavorless, odorless and devoid of thc"...
I'm not trying to convince you .
Actually ,I do not give a fuck ,about what you think or the way you're laughing ...

- Independent lab tests have revealed a 19% increase in CBD and a 24% increase in THC in a side-by-side comparison between Illumitex fixtures with the F3 spectrum and high pressure sodium fixtures (see test data below).
- Production increases (strain dependant) up to 15% in overall dried bud weight have been achieved
- Decrease in growth cycles times have increased annual yield by giving growers an average of one extra grow cycle.
- For example: 82 days for HPS vs 68 days for Illumitex LED
- Overall annual yield could reach 40% when combining cycle time and harvest weights.

They're good but not great I own 2 of those and 2 Mars 2 1600, one 1200 and 1600 panels just collecting dust because of my CXA's lol here's a pic of the difference between good and great ledsOk ... LEDS work , it's whatever floats your boat on light choices.
Mars Hydro systems ( they produce just fine )

Can we all just get along ... Haha
What size is your grow area?Listen lads I don't want this to become childish I'm not trying to dispute the fact that LEDs are brilliant grow lights. I Bet most you led guys would think I'd wanna hear you cave and say hid is better, this is not true I could have quite easily posted this thread in another area and be met with answers like "no to led" "down witht he diode" and such. I just want real information and here seems the best place to get it.
Yep I'm here lol don't worry I'm not here to fight. This is some funny shit brewing and it ain't my doing lol.I smell cat piss,I'm out of here because it's about to get ugly.
