"Pay so much for so little" huh?
Wtf?
I'm a union carpenter from the Bay Area. Worked my ass off for years. Could hardly get by on my wages, let alone fully provide for my family.(thank you bud green).
Are we supposed to be on welfare and food stamps also? Come on man
Ya know when i see posts like the one from bushleager you quoted 3 things come to mind on why him & others dislike unions & claim unfairly high pay rates .

1 The union hater is college educated , does little to no physical labor & looks down on men who get filthy doing their job , getting dirty equates to unskilled to them .

2 The union hater is a low skilled, low paid worker in his field & jealous of union workers making a much better living , the union haters low wages & poor financial standing compared to a union worker can only be rationalized by them as greedy over paid workers , not the true reason which is their poor skill set or lack of initiative to seek out union employment.

3 And the most common in the youth union haters is the parroting of propaganda they've heard other low paid scabs say , plain old fashioned jealousy of higher paid union workers , or parroting the anti union propaganda their scab employer feeds them while explaining just how lucky they are to have the job they do & a union will force their business to close its doors , leaving them out of work .

Most have zero experience working in a union shop yet hate unions , or they had one union job & got fired from it , all cases sheer ignorance of union workers higher skill set , better work ethic, increased worker saftey & better quality of product cause them to hate unions .

Unions are a joke and one of the reasons our blue collar jobs have been shipped overseas. No reason to pay so much for so little.
So much for so little ? Please explain in detail what union local you have personal experience with & what over paid jobs you took part of that a much cheaper worker could do just as well .

It would also be helpfull to qualify your statements if you state your current profession , education level & current hourly pay scale.

You are clearly harboring some deep seeded homosexual desires. I hope that one day you will be able to come clean, and when you are ready to come out, I will be here to support you.

All my love,

Pinworm

Like Hillary when she changed her stance on Gay marriage, you have been wrong all your life,...No ?

I understand how you must feel right now. I will be here for you on the cusp of your life decision.

Ask Paddy, .... he says a man can suck dick, which I believe you do, and not be gay. First I heard of that,...you can learn a great deal from him if you take the time to read. I really recommend being a partner with him instead of me my dick would choke you out. oops let it slip again.......

It's okay sweety, I understand. You are struggling right now because there is no one there for you when you need them the most. I will stand by you during this difficult time. I know you will need someone to talk to, and you will need someone who understands the drama going on inside of yourself and the drama going on inside of your circle of friends. They will not see this sort of thing coming. I have endured this whole thing, myself. I can be a friend to you during your difficult and tumultuous life decision. All you need to do is affirm yourself. Be loud, and be proud! You are a human being (sort of). Let everyone know how you really feel!

See, now we are feeling better aren't we? Now we can both admit that our feelings will never get in the way of our posting. You should be proud of yourself. You took a huge step today!

No not me, pan. Nothing personal meant by it, just what many unionized people have told me over the years. My uncle though has worked for GM and GE for like 30 years now. He's gone on tirades about it and how it's ruined the industries and ultimately our economy because all the parts that he used to make are now made overseas because unions have made it too expensive to make them here.

I love the love for the employee but there is a limit, and $50-$100 an hour for some dude who dropped out of high school and does the same work that China does for $6 an hour is tough to see the positive in.

As for me I'm a kitchen guy, so no unions here. They tried to come into one place when I worked for Fidelity as a private chef in Boston but everyone saw them coming and we all got warned ahead of time so we dodged the bullet. No one wanted any part in that. My current profession is restaurant owner, I have a bachelors, a masters, and associates in culinary arts and hourly I prob make about $11/hour. Small I know, but when you work about 70 hrs/week that's how it ends up.

Your country just passed gay marriage, I was just wondering what the atmosphere was like over there? I mean, if you asked some random person on the street in Ireland "what do you think about gay marriage?", what would the general response be? What do you think it is about the US that leads to the kind of opposition shown by our good buddy Oddball?
63% in favour and a vocal majority.

If you voted no, you probably wouldn't admit to it or you'd be torn to shreds for being a bigot, facist and just all round general arsehole.

Westborough Baptist Church nearly shit themselves when we passed it too, starting posting all this "God Hates Ireland" shit, turns out they had the flag backward and were actually abusing the flag of the Ivory Coast in Africa...

I was paticularly proud of this country when I read that a NUN who started the largest homeless charity in this country said she'd have to vote with her conscience and vote Yes, loads of elderly woman/men saying they'd vote yes.

"Land of the Free"...how do you guys keep that myth going?

it's been my experience from talking to others and observation..people hate unions because of the relationship to extortion from the past.

unions can and do have their place..they've taken past failures and have fined tuned..that's what it's all about folks, 'fine tuning'..

can they demand some bullshit? of course!..you don't get what you don't ask for..that's negotiating 101. nothing wrong with that. nothing says you have to, too.

I'm not a union hater but I do recognize the flaws just like anything else in life. Years ago my cousin worked construction in Cleveland Ohio, at a union job. Don't know if it's still the same but the strict guidelines regarding what a worker can and can not do is what drives costs up. For example and this may be to the extreme, say a task requires an electrician to hammer out or drive something that is normally performed by another worker wearing a different hard hat. Production/task is delayed until the other guy is called in to make good. IOW, if you're a carpenter, then you do only what carpenters do.

And don't get me started on the union air traffic controllers who took an oath not to ever strike (for safety reasons) in 1981. Firing them after giving them 48 hours to re-think their intent strike was the best action a President (Reagan) could have taken. http://www.history.com/topics/us-presidents/ronald-reagan/videos/reagan-fires-striking-air-traffic-controllers

Unions have no right to take the American people hostage regarding residents' right to safety and financial security.

Then there's their ties to the communist party.

Along comes Governor Scott Walker -
"Scott Walker’s victory over organized labor — passage of a right-to-work law in Wisconsin — is just the latest milestone in a resurgent anti-union movement marching across the industrial heartland.

"Wisconsin’s right-to-work bill passed the State Assembly Friday 62-35 along party lines, and now heads to Gov. Walker, who has said he’ll sign it Monday. With this action, right to work — which allows workers not to pay dues to a union that bargains collectively on their behalf — is progressing through the states more swiftly than at any time since the 1950s. And where once such measures were confined largely to the South and West, they‘re now taking root in Midwestern union strongholds like Indiana and Michigan, which passed right-to-work laws in 2012."

Union managers better wake up. People are getting tired of their heavy handed tactics, their unreasonable demands. Does it make good business sense to outsource to countries who can produce for a lot less than an American union laborer? Damn right it makes sense. Union membership is falling like a rock. "Right to work’s resurgence also reflects the labor movement’s growing unpopularity with the American worker, as union membership has fallen to 11 percent."

Texas is a right-to-work state. Makes employees a bit more humble....makes them think twice before flipping off their boss or the owner.
