No doubt. I am the same way. I mainly carry the hipoint in situations that I don't want to carry a nice gun. It the same reason I bought an 100$ Rossi single shot 20 gauge. Its a brush gun I don't care if I scratch.I should probably explain why.The first issue I had was jam ups caused by the feed ramp and bad magazines. If I have to shoot something, I want it to die. I got it for a sidearm so I could bowhunt bear (never ended up going). If you were being charged by a bear you want to be able to put it down. I shot 500 rounds and it never got any better. The second thing was a dishonest salesmen told me they make a .45 carbine.I liked the idea of the mags being interchangeable so my intention was to come back and by the carbine later. At the time they did not make the .45 carbine it was .40 and 9mm only. So I was lied to. Another problem I found is they have a safety switch inside that disables the trigger when the breach is open. That can malfunction allowing a half seated round to be fired with an open breach very very dangerous. Honestly you cant beat the price. they are great for taking on a boat, trunk of the car or atv. If something happens to it you weren't out much money. Lifetime warranty made in usa. They do have some good points. They are fun to target shoot but if my life was on the line I would rather pay extra for good quality and reliability. Hows that?
I just like hipoints mainly because I have had good luck with them.
I like kel tec to. Some people knock them.
I say at the end of the day the best self defense weapon, first is what ever you have available. The most important thing is that it shoots and the person shooting it is comfortable with their weapon.
