LOW REZ TEMPS HYDRO/DWC

I know anything over 75 isn't considered good in Hydro and 68 degrees water temp is perfect. However Its winter and my rez water is getting below 65 degrees. What temp would you say is harmful to the plants or isn't that great?? Running below 62 degrees in the rez is that too low??

Also is dutch master root zone conditioner good for LOW temps?? I know its good for high rez temps

Answer: You want to keep your water temp at 65 degrees this is the best temperature for maintaining a good dissolved oxygen ratio - which is crucial for your nutrient uptake via the roots.

Anything below 50 degrees and the root mass starts to suffer due to lack of oxygen in the water - colder water is DENSE - therefore it can hold the DO level longer but there is a break point where it starts to drop off and that is roughly below 50 degrees.

Your rez temps are the most important aspect of true active hydroponics.

Are you sure about the 50 thing not able to hold DO? Not saying it's a good temp but I fill my res with well water and its never caused an issue. In the winter it's 45 and lots of trout streams I fish are below 50 as well.

It can hold DO at 50 - just not as well or long due to the temperature! If you go below 40 - your plants will die! For the best grow rates, etc - I keep my reservoir temps at 65 - if you want yours at 50 then rock on with your bad self!

My bad self has no choice in the matter lol. I just plop the hose in and let her go. It does eventually warm up ;). Just never heard that one before and now I just have to research it lol. And 40 will kill em u say hmmm.

Doesn't look like a direct correlation always looking at this chart. You do right it seems.

No worries. Try and maintain your temps at 65 if you can.......otherwise get a aqua heater...stick the hoe in and figure out how many watts you need vs the size of your rez.....then sit back relax and say YEEEE!

It's all good .......

The colder well temps actually don't seem to hurt for the the short time it takes to warm things up. But yes that a thought.

I have one thx. I used it at first but honestly doesn't seem to phase em. I run sprayers so that may help if In fact it hurts them but ran flooded root zone systems and as said they really don't seem to mind.

Right on, I'm sure exposing the water to air w/ sprayers like that is getting the temp up pretty quick. I also used zone in my rdwc system and it worked great while the roots were still in the pots. I would think it would work good in an aero environment. My temps were 65 deg.

Had a plant that rez got to 44 degrees and the plant was in a coma for 10+ days. I left the attic window cracked and forgot to close it a few years back.

Looks like you can get a 50w-300w aquarium heater for under $10 delivered if it gets too cold.
Thanks, I think I'm good. I don't see my res getting below 62 degrees at its coldest. The lowest my rez has been so far is 66 degrees when the temp got down to 30 degrees at night outside... Like I said before I didn't have any problems growing with temps at 78 degrees in the summer. I was using the max dose of dutch masters root zone conditioner though.

I can recall a time here on RIU where I was placed on the hot seat for mentioning that I keep the res between 65-69F...to avoid certain problems.

Apparently the info I got from my grow-op didn't fail me:)
