4ft x 4ftx 6.5ft tent. Can someone give me a little help selecting what will work within reason price wise? I have been eyeing the cxa3070s at 4000k. How many do you think I need? Drivers? Power Supply? I got plenty of heat sinks but how many fans should I run? Anything that is a must that I haven't mentioned?

30-50 watts per sq foot. 4x4 = 16sqft ---- 480 to 800 watts. Some run their setup softer and keep the lights closer using passive or semi-passive cooling, some run hotter and use fully active cooling. The popular setup in the forums are to use 4 rows of four 3070's across a 4x4 tent. If you used the HLG-185H-C1400 driver per 4 cobs you'd get approximately 200w per row or 50w per cob. You could also use the HLG-185H-C700 and power 8 cobs at about 25w per cob. So, you could use 2 drivers or 4 drivers depending on how hard you want to push them.

You could also run 3 rows of 3 cobs (vero 29) and use the HLG-240H-C2100 and get 80watts per cob (correct me if I'm wrong). So, 3 drivers and 9 cobs for 720 watts. 16 cxa-3070 and 4 drivers for 800 watts, 16 cxa-3070 and 2 drivers for 400 watts.

How many fans you should run depends on your heatsinks. Your build is a very popular one and there are tons of examples in the forums so you will find more info easily.
 
I'm going to build a six cob fixture out of CXB3070's. My thought is that I would run them with two HLG-120-1050's, 3 each. Would the HLG-185-1400 or 1050 be better? If so, why? Thanks!

The HLG-185-1400 would fit 3 cobs on it perfectly. The 1050 would be a fair bit less efficient.

In terms of what will work best for the drivers -

HLG-185-1400 fits 4 CXB 3070
HLG-185-1050 fits "5.5" CXB 3070 --->5

HLG-120-1050 fits "4.3" CXB 3070 --->4
HLG-120-1400 fits 3 CXB 3070

If you are fixed on 6 cobs, go for the HLG-120-1400

Why not purchase 2 more and use 2 HLG-185-1400 and run 8 cobs over your area? The HLG-185 drivers are about $5 more than the HLG-120's.

My grow space will only be 2.5x2.5x4.5'. I was concerned 8 might be too much light. Why would I pick the 185 over the 120?

While I am technically minded, these correlations escape me. I've been researching this for weeks. I'm glad to know what a driver does but as far as the technical side of them, the info just won't sink in.

The level of expertise on this board regarding this topic is unbelievable. Reps to all.. ☺

Hey giant I'm in the same boat and was recommended a t2-2100 from tastyled.com for a 2x2.5 area. That's only running 2 Cobb CXB3590s. 165~ watt. You could view their specs for some inspiration for your DIY :bigjoint:

Thanks @Bachomp. I like building things, projects and really wanted to build my own which doesn't look difficult to me. It looks like I can build twice the light for less doing it myself.

I've looked at the specs on tasty, pacific lc and other sites for general pricing, size and cob arrays. I'm kind of patterning my build off of those but also not. lol

I agree with you, 6 bulbs in that small tent is already giving you pretty much maximum spread. The drivers will also work fine, they just won't be as efficient as other choices. If you don't care so much about efficiency then there's no problems ;)

I do care about efficiency so I guess the 185-1400 would be the most efficient way to go while giving me the option to add two more cob's if I want or upgrading to the 3590 if I want to. Every 36 months, these lights double in output according to Haitz so hopefully I'll be able to upgrade the cob's while continuing to use the same drivers.
 
CXB3590's with the 3500K DB bin for both flower & veg will work just fine
& get a prw supply that dims for vegging
they are what is popular atm
 
Hey I have a 4x2 area, 8sqm. I'm a LED noob but looking to make the transition. I'd prefer buying a light than making (unless it's easy).

What type of light (wattage, company) should I be looking at to cover 3-4 plants?

I'd settle for 1-2 plant coverage if it comes with a significant price reduction.

Any help is appreciated
