Using Boveda on Overdried Bud

Hi Guys, is there a way to calculate ROUGHLY how may bags per gram you require when in a sealed container ?

I have TERRIBLE problems drying as my attic space is very dry and it dries too quick and turns to dust !!

I will start a thread on it i think (perhaps cutting bigger branches will help).

This is the first time i have ever heard of Bovida...lol

I don't think that you'll have satisfactory results using Boveda to bring the RH down until it's already below 70% RH, and it sounds like it's too fast a timeframe for it to get to that point in your attic.
How about putting a humidifier up there? If you can't do that, how about putting a tray or two of water out on the floor to raise the RH?

If you're able to lower the temps by say opening a window, you'll find it will dry slower (e.g. if it's in the 60s F rather than the 80s)

I'm stuck with the attic/loft, i had i had another option i would.....

There must be a way to control the relative humidity if i built a wooden box or something ?

More googling required i think, but i'm at a loss at the moment.

Maybe jar them faster, less hanging time and burp more frequently to prevent mold

I like the humidifier/water idea, knowing my luck i would then end up with but rot !! To be honest i have not even checked the heat or humidity where i dry, the swings between absolutely boiling to freezing are crazy.

I need to create a closed section and keep that a certain level, i could just rig up a humidifier to a timer and monitor it oven a period until i have it correct, perhaps add a small clip fan to distribute moist air.

So i need to be looking at 62f really ? I always work in Celcius (UK).

Or insulate your loft to ensure the humidity and temp is more stable.

These are the ones I use, I'll mark them as I use them for my info only but I didn't know they can be rehydrated.

My buddy gave me some weed last week and it was a bit dry, so I dropped a pak in a 1quart mason jar and it was awesome 2 days later.

It's the best thing going for long storage of your stash.

You can also hang the whole plant up side down, no pruning, to slow the drying process down a bit. If you're drying takes 4 days that's too quick, I do a slow dry of 8-12 days minimum at 55-65 rh before jarring.

You can use a paper bag or a cardboard box with some holes and a towel over it.

Cheers guys, lining it would help as it is all porous wood PLUS i virtually do a full trim on first cut and never hang a whole branch never mind a whole plant so that is definitely speeding the process up.

Yes. Throw the proper size in there and they will be fine. Many of us do a short dry and drop in a Boveda and that's it. I actually think that's what the Boveda is for. To keep enough moisture in your smoke so it doesn't dry out and crumple into dust in the grinder.

Stop grinding buds...it hurts!!!!

Just been looking at Humidifiers and looks like an Ultrasonic humidifier could do the job with no filters etc ?

Most are adjustable but i also could link it up to on of these found on a popular online selling site (not sure if links are allowed) and set it to 62F ??

OR set it lower to be safe of not inducing any budrot ?

I could line small area with mylar and just dangle it in the middle of area ?

What do you reckon guys ??

I'm not here to argue but just put on your thinking cap for a second, how can a whole plant dry quicker than a branch when it has more stems branches? Isn't it quicker to drain a 500 gallon pool than it is an Olympic size pool?

You won't be able to set temperature (62F) on a humidifier, only RH (relative humidity). 62% is the humidity most people say is the perfect cure zone is inside of jars, not necessarily the RH you want while hanging. If your room is that hot, you could run an RH as high as 70% since mold needs colder temperatures to grow. Just make sure there is some air flow so your hanging buds can get some oxygen.

I know people who use them with a bad chest in living/bedrooms etc and it has never been mentioned ??

Temps should be 50 ish to 60 when drying.

And yes there is a 'white dust' from humidifiers they even tell you to use distilled water, especially if you have 'hard' water it comes from mineral deposits and it has the potential for health problems.

Think you misunderstood me mate, i am agreeing with you, i dry small bits/full trim will obviously dry quicker than a fuller branch.

My water has a PH of 7.5 so it is hard water.

Dude, why would i make it up? Ultrasonic humidifiers are the worst for the white dust (scale) getting all over everything in the room they are in. I never experienced it with a cool mist filtered humidifier or with a warm mist humidifier using the same tap water as i used in my ultrasonic one. So i've been around the block with them, bud.

Your correct mate, never said you made it up ? Just that i have never came across it, it is harmless but i still don't want it on buds.

Think i will be better of with a fan cool mist as you stated.......

With the cool mist ones you aren't going to get as much humidity into the area so separating it off into a smaller area is important. They have cheaper ones at walmart for under $40, i'm not really sure what all you need in one.

One thing to make sure of if you get a cool mist with a filter is to make sure and follow the direction on how to clean it WEEKLY. Otherwise your filter will mold and that's the last thing you want to introduce to your drying buds.

I'm actually not using any humidifiers anymore, but when i do it's a ultrasonic because of past problems with the other two kinds (too hot from warm mist, and moldy filter with cool mist).

Just pull the trigger and run it for a few days and find out the ins and outs of it, it's not as hard as it seems; and you're lucky enough to know the negative things going into it unlike me and many others.

My grow rooms and drying closet sit between 27% and 37% humidity depending on the temperature.

I hang dry for 2-3 days then jar it and burp. I also have short term memory loss and forget to jar before it is really dry some times. I recently did the later and filled 8 one quart jars with damn near dust.
I purchased 12 bovida 62's and slipped one in each jar. The next day the buds were nice and squishy again.

I also have some California outdoor crap that was given to me in a 20 gallon garbage bag. As you can imagine it was dry dry dry! I put a bovida pack in a jar full of it and the next day it was squishy and smelled way better.

I am sold on these things and am ordering up a bunch more.
