Texas independence

Puerto Rico too?
Not really, PR along with Cuba were the most imp't Spanish colonies in the "New World" and Spain ruled them with an iron grip. The US inherited them, along with Philipines after defeating Spain. Oddly the US gave Cuba independence but not PR shortly after the war

Dole Fruit Co took a page from the United Fruit Co

Rapacious corporations destroying whole peoples for the sake of profits.

Anyone ELSE seeing the obvious historical parallels with the struggle of present day American citizens vs our own corporate controlled government?

Only now we get to let Halliburton and Monsanto destroy the country and the planet for similar reasons?!

The dumbest thing Texas could do would be to secede from the Union. They need the rest of us to protect themselves from the megacorps, just as we need them.

NONE of them...the Feds are the state's insurance policy. Who steps right in during hurricanes, earthquakes, floods, fires, etc. Who sends in the National Guard when shit breaks out? Who sends in the money for a myriad of things? Everybody bitches until they need them...

Hey buddy, why don't you ask the folks down in New Orleans how 'well taken care of' they feel? I'm betting you're going to get a lot of critical comments about the nature of Federal Government 'assistance'!

The feds were kicking down doors and confiscating weapons during hurricane Katrina. And look how well fema assisted in the east coast hurricane. That was a couple years back and there are still parts that look like a third world country.

The basic point is the states are part of a central government that needs the financial assistance of that central government. Katrina hit during an inept administration that I neither voted in or supported. The entire history of this country is not without it's mistakes.

EXACTLY. That's not my idea of assistance.

MY point is that Katrina and its aftermath are indicative of what We the People can continue to expect from our Federal Government without radical change.

So how long do y'all feel like waiting for it?

Maybe until you have an educated electorate. No time soon. Go read 75% of the threads in politics...(which you have) and tell me how you can actually beat the status quo...there are well financed obstacles and outright stupidity at every corner working against change...and they vote too.

An educated populace is what is being undone. I look at what a math test was for me, and the math tests my kids took. The powers have decided that they would rather have a controllable citizenry than a creative one. I see collapse on the horizon; the Western world is much like Rome in the third century.

They did not believe that the fourth and fifth centuries would be the disaster they became. I admit that I despair.

I wasn't born out here but I've been living here since I was 2011 my opinion of Texas has changed greatly since then as I don't feel that same "Texas" feeling like I did when I first moved out here though I still love it though always will be my 2nd home

I only have one true home though I miss it greatly

:'(

damn g, how old are you?

I think the states would do a better job of governing themselves. Some better then others. Texas isn't the only one. California, Alaska, Hawaii and a few others are talking secession as well. If they formed an alliance their combined economy just might make it were a single state alone might not. Create a new America for the people by the people.
