Those look pretty good from here!
Thanks bro. I don't think I've ever seen portions of the bud sticking up like that. Not even sure how to describe them, but that's what the pics are for. I suppose if they fatten up and fill in I'll be stoked, for now they're just odd. Reminds me of the first time I grew GSC, had a strange mutant shape... but it smoked like candy.

Is that called fox tailing?

I've always wondered what fox tailing was. Thanks Tim... I suppose you should know ;)

I did a google search and found a growweedeasy article on it. According to them there are two kinds, one good / one bad. The "good" is actually neutral, just a genetic thing, the bad is caused by too much light or heat. I think I have 90% good and about 10% bad... But there is nothing I can do about it, my light is as high as it can go. At least I know now.

Edit: did some more reading, seems to be caused or exaggerated by heat. During some of the damp weather we've been having I've had to run my dehumidifier on high during lights out, so the tent has at times stayed a steady 78º-82º 24/7. I wondered what the effect of that might be...

SUNDAY,, looking forward to the updates,, oh ya
Being that its Father's Day I might not have time for one today, but I'll try to sneak one in tomorrow. No amber showing on the BB#3, maybe some signs of some just starting to turn. It'll be a few more days before (at least) before anything comes down.

Day 58

Took a good look at the BB#3, and now I think there is about a week left. Nice solid buds and a good amount of them, but I'm not seeing a lot of mass overall. I'd guess maybe 4oz from that one. The OG is just going wild with the foxtails, looks like buds if Tim Burton (or Dr Seuss?) designed them. That one has a couple of weeks, there's a decent amount of volume, but I'm not impressed with the density. They both smell great, the BB is especially sweet.

The BB#3

Looks good :)
Thanks bro. I'm hoping all of the strange formations (foxtails) on the 'Rug-dawg OG' create more surface area for trichomes!!! If it smokes well and provides the meds my patient is looking for, in the end that's all that matters. The guy who recommended it to me has been good in the past with his choices, after this one has been bong tested, I'll give him some feedback. The parent lines are pretty solid, so it should be pretty good...

that kind of Fox tailing that early on is usually due to the light being too close. Too many photons. Some cultivars are supposed to fox tail in the last week like gorilla glue.

Thanks for that. This one stretched like crazy, I did bend the tallest two branches, but the light is as high as it can go and at this point it seems like I'm stuck with this situation for the duration of the grow.

Do you know what the net result will be? What will be impacted? Flavor? Potency? ???

depends on the strain really. Just hope you don't get stemmy fox tailing

That sounds pretty descriptive... that would suck. This looks like a 70+ day plant to me, I'm coming up on day 60. As long as no aspect of the THC production is at risk by letting it keep going, I'll risk stems.

All my patient cares about is high THC levels, decent taste, and smooth smoke. If she's got to pick them apart to get to the good parts she's easy going about that. So "bag appeal" or inconvenience is not a concern. Potency is paramount.

Sunday Update -- day 65

It's all gravy from here. I could take them all down today and it'd be fine, so now it's no worries and wait and see. 90% frosty but no signs of amber yet on the OGx2, but I have read that some plants never get amber? I'd like to time it so that the plants suck the SIPs (at least nearly) dry before the final harvest, that would sure make getting those 18 gallon bins out of the tent a lot easier. It takes them about 5 days to go through 3 gallons of water, and they hold five. They are due for a filling, I could top them off and then wait about 7 days and then take them down. That would be Day 72. That's not a bad run.

I took the top buds off of the BB#3, and the bottom is still cooking. If I decide to take down the OGx2 in two waves, then I'll probably be going a full 10 weeks before this run is all hanging.

Bad pic, I was mixing cement yesterday and I think the camera lens is dusty....

Letting them dry out thoroughly is desirable right at chop. You'll love it.

I've always dried them out in soil, I'm just encountering my first SIP harvest. That makes it especially challenging when I do a two stage harvest -- I have to choose whether or not to let my res's dry out for the first cut, and then refill them. All through this run, they've never gotten below 2 gallons in the res. It's all a big experiment, maybe I'll let them dry out and then see what happens for the second cut.
