Cheapest starter LEDs?

I have a friend that is interested, but also wants some serious output. I know that Veros are meant to be ran hot and think they would be a good option... Does anyone know what might be an even cheaper route? Assuming that's possible.

I'm sure hes looking to run 800-1000W and get a 1-1.5g/W return. Let me know!

I'm in the research stage and I'm not one to go the cheapest route. But in my own notes I have written down that CXB3070 is the cheapest usable L.E.D. I've found so far. I don't believe I'd go for anything less than that and Vero isn't on my radar I'm looking at CXB3590 and Citizen

Das fair, I know the higher end more efficient cobs, but like I said I'm looking for the cheapest option that produces ok results as money is his issue currently.

Look at viparspectra on Amazon. I am running their 900w ($299).
I got it to replace a 600w hps and to see if I liked LED at all by getting a "cheep one."

So far it pairs up to one of my 600hps, but doesn't compare to a 1kw hps (as advertized). Pulls 425w from the wall. Grows very nice buds

Right. Then best deal is timber grow lights.

As for your buddy.....you get what you pay for. If he burns money on cheap 3-5 watt diod lights then he's way better off with HID lighting for the money.

Timber Grow lights has some nice packages if I would have seen that before putting in so much research I would have probably ordered a few of those. May as well build it myself now and save every penny I can.

The issue is going too cheap, and the answer is going to be 3x 315 CMH or a 1000W DE fixture. There's nothing wrong with those.

I guess what I'm saying is what you probably want is the cheapest LED solution that is more efficient than HPS.

I have a very cheap option I came up with in another thread...where was that.

8x CLU058-1825 ~$240
4x HLG-185H-48 ~$240
8x Mechatronix IceLED coolers ~$120

Which is ummmm $600? I mean beat that, anybody. I dare you. This will be 800W, 130k lumens or so. At least 48% efficiency, 1900-2000 umol/s.

Basically a fresh bulb 1000W DE replacement for $600, much less heat, no bulbs to replace, etc. Totally killer.

 That is sexy alright. I would like it even more if it had 9 cobs to spread evenly, but it sounds like 3/4 of that setup would be enough to replace 1000watt hps. New 140K and in a reflector and a grow space maybe 70% of that on the plants, 100K. The option you suggest but with six cobs is 600watt, $450, also good for 100K or so.

So $300setup for 4 cobs and maybe $50 for material and holders, would then be about 65K plenty to replace a 600watt hps. Makes me wonder why I'm waiting on the new vero29.

Yeah your math is probably right, but I was giving Gavita the benefit of the doubt with their >2000 umol/s claim. Since op didn't say the size of the area, just 800-1000W, Bob's yer uncle, have a light. I thought a flat water jetted holder for 2x IceLED and a driver between them would be a nice 200W modular unit.

As far as even spread, I'm not sure 9 is better than 8 or vice versa. Just depends on the area being covered. I built with 8 in a 4x2 space, in a 4x2 cob configuration, one per square ft. Pretty even, in theory.

As far as waiting for Veros, they have the advantage of holder and optics support, but I'd be surprised if 52V and 70V versions were inexpensive.

I am pretty sure you want the HLG-185H-60B. They run around 52 volts, I think.
