Shoppers an Lp?

I already do contract work for them, maybe I can help them in their distribution plans ;) No plans to grow it, leap of faith here in trying to get registered as a distributor but not producing it, didn't think there was an option for that?
There has always been an option in terms of the way the MMPR rules had been written. It has always stated they would give license to become a "LD" licensed dealer, they just never have to this point, but the wording allows for it. And yes it will just be a selection of LP cannabis.

I logged into my Tilray account for the first time in months, and noticed that the Floor Sweepings 15g Jar (sorry, House Blends) had gone from $5/g to $9/g !!

I mean wow! Imagine a person who doesn't have access to a forum like this, thinking this was their only option?

Good Christ, now Shoppers wants to be middle man for these fools? Tack on a few more bucks, it's only a grandmother in a wheelchair, or some dude whose wife has stage 4 cancer. Who cares?

Horrific. Totally expected in a Capitshitstick economy like ours, but damn... just brutal.

All these companies (and the government) are doing is bolstering the BM. Just wait until the fucking Rec laws come into play! You'll hear the cheers from the BM growers from St John to Victoria!

I, for one, will be cheering right beside them. BM forever.

These big guys vying for the right to sell is such a laugh. They don't know the shit show they will get into. and out of in less than 3 years.
Retailing weed is not gonna be easy. It's perishable. That creates issues that most know nothing about.
In a nutshell here's how it works with food. If you a big player in retail you either have return privileges or you are given a rebate to cover stales and out of code product. Big player expect to be helped on this on sellable product. Therefore the big LP's are gonna need to discount the original product to cover the eventual loss or a rebate on volume to compensate for out of code and non sellable bud or other products. Consumer demand freshness.
Liquor does not code out...or at least the shelve life is quit long. Still i'll bet the the LCBO does NOT eat it's returns. I'd expect they get returned to the distributor. Or they tell that distributor/LP..." oh sorry...we don't need your stuff anymore if you don't help on the returns and coded out product. Retailing is a whole other world beyond selling over the phone to customers.
This will be the issues in retailing weed. Too many player...lots of unsold product. Big players need to sell it all by volume sales ( like walmart ) or they loose...small store can regulate their stock much better.
I'm gonna laugh at the trouble these big player are gonna have if they think they can simply "sell " cannabis...gonna be funny.

Of course these A holes who are sweating over the chance to sell it .....don't smoke it and have zero BM knowledge. It will take about three year imo to see it all crash down and Lp's loose their shirts. They will eat each other alive. some will survive..many will fail.

very interesting thought
Well they'd be federally licensed so no they won't but that's up to the bank. I know some might not like to hear this but the banks can do as they wish, they can drop a customer whenever especially if the person is specifically stating their business is cannabis related or told the bank they are cannabis related but they are not federally licensed.

I'm wanting to run a small licensed garden in my shop but even with the landlord not caring, I wouldn't do it unless I had an assurance from my bank that I won't get dropped if I have a ACMPR garden in my shop and I specifically sell to ACMPR customers. What's the point of running your business and then being sloppy about what you say to a bank because you think its cool to state your business is cannabis related.

i wonder if a big player like Shoppers gets in the game, will the big banks back off.
it's one thing to shut down a small business but lets see what they say to a major player will millions in their bank. i think the almighty dollar will change their views

I'd bet they would be ok but not all banks are like TD, Royal and Montreal. Pretty sure anyone with an ACMPR LP license is safe with banks since its a federal license.

Hippie, my dear. You're forgetting they'll only be selling irradiated, processed oils with a shelf life of forever.

would be sweet if the head of shoppers has a crim record..and could not become an lp or supplier...
just dreaming in a perfect world....
It dont have to be too severe...maybe a minor assault..years ago...
I would support only independently owned pot retailers.. over someone who has already created some jobs(pharmacy) but wants to add to their employees work load....
better that all new jobs are created and this industry can afford to pay its employees well.
It does not have to be a sector of minimum wage jobs only but rather an industry that can afford to pay employees... so they can live a more comfortable lifestyle...

Capitalism - The voluntary exchange of goods between parties without coercion.

Nothing you described is capitalism. Fascism or corporatism is more accurate.

Total freedom of the plant so anyone can grow it like tomatoes is the only acceptable outcome.

Everything that has gone on before and what is being proposed is still prohibition.

Sure, if you want to sell it to the general public then you should be subject to strict quality control and regulation. If you are just growing your own and swapping/sharing with friends and other consenting adults then back the hell off!

Let the LPs battle it out and become the Budweisers and Molsons of the commercial game selling their swill to the ignorant masses but allow small growers to be in the market like craft brewers are to sell a premium product to those with a better appreciation for the fine kind. There is many a fine draught on the market today that started in someones basement.

Re-legalization goes into hearings in the parliament in the spring folks so don't hold your breath. Once the process starts it can take years to wend it's way through all the stages before it can become law. The wheels of government turn slowly and they don't always roll forward.

:peace:

I found this in another article about shoppers....

Michael Lickver, a Toronto lawyer at Bennett Jones who advises on the medical marijuana regime, says it’s not surprising that Shoppers applied. He said the market is sizable and demand is growing quicker than anyone had predicted – including Health Canada.

Hmmmm......Bennett Jones is popping up again.....
Yeah, Tweed's in house counsel. such a classy guy.

He broke-ass Tweed patients, this is where your money goes for their $10 strains, for some midget in a rental ferrari pretending to be a rapper
