People of that generation joined the military to kick some ass. They were brave and believed in something. They knew exactly what they were getting into and went into it head first. They didn't come home crying. They came home proud.

Please STFU. Dude was in the National Guard. Most join as a weekend job staying state side. Unfortunately they started sending those guys over seas. They need to make snitching felons like you serve. No age limit

This is true; no one had any real idea how to make the movement leave some tracks in terms of real change.
On the other hand, if it's THAT difficult, that does not bode well for our nation.

A lot of them came home fucked up. They didn't have medical terms for it like today, they were simply, 'shell shocked'. I knew a couple of them around town. They deserved respect too.
So when you go to boot camp in the Nation Guard they don't train you how to kill people?
So knowing this, how can anyone today act surprised that this is what happens? It is a well known fact that joining the military will fuck with your head. You know that going in and still CHOOSE to sign the papers.

When you join the National Guard you don't think you will have to serve 2-3 tours in Afghanistan. It used to be called NATIONAL GUARD for a reason. Protect the state-side.

Do you know anything about military recruiting? Not sure how it is now, but back in the 90s, the Army was the only service that would guarantee your MOS. If they couldn't deliver, you were released from your obligation, no questions asked. Recruiters from the other services were often guilty of the old bait & switch, and recruits who fell for it got screwed and tattooed. Those kids didn't want to be Rambo; they just wanted a job.
Maybe you should read the paperwork a little closer before you sign it.
We were all that age once. It is no secret what the military is for. They give you guns for a reason.
