It'll work fine.
No, shouldn't matter.

Once you up pot to the 5's - water around the core by watering the new "soil"......You might see a bit of nee from the plant for feed...just pay attention to what the plant is telling you.

I would be inclined to pH all in-going fluids to 6.7 and then water/feed.....The media will need the help and may require you to use a Ca/Mg - just look for the signs..

another question;

currently I have a dtw drip set up using rockwool

I use dosatron injectors to mix my fertilizers... the injectors have a nob that allows them to be disengaged if I want to switch between plain water feeds or nutrient solution feeds

im fazing the rockwool out and watering the new soil plants by hand

eventually I want to automate the watering/nutrient feed system for the soil

the system that's currently in place uses drip emitters that are rated at 2 gallons per hour

so to put one gallon of water into a 5 gallon pot itll take about 30 minutes if I get max pressure

if that's to long or to slow I can add 2 or even 3 stakes per pot

2 stakes would be 15 minutes to get 1 gallon and 3 stakes maybe only 10 min

or is there a better way?

I like the idea of 2 or 3 drip stakes per plant,,, providing extra safety from clogged drip emitters

in the 3 gallon pots with plenty of root space and at 40% humidity

I seem to be watering every 2 or 3 days each pot about 1/2 to 3/4 gallons each watering

I could just as easily use the promix from the start I guess

id just need to feed more fertilizers.... more like what I do now whith my rockwool just watering less frequently

do you guys think im over thinking it or over complicating it by starting out in the foxfarm soil?

if I use the inert promix along with liquid fertilizers what amendments, beneficials and such would you recommend, if any?

i went to the pro mix web page

HP is considered high performance and BX is considered general use

as near as I can tell the difference between the HP and BX is the mix of perlite vs vermiculite

so it appears to me the HP will drain faster than the BX

anybody know if theres any other differenc between them?

since this isn't an outdoor gorilla grow and water is available along with the auto irrigation feeding I assume the HP would be better for me

I use the cheap Promix from Wal-Mart that's marked on the outside for flowers. Been using it for two grows after using my own mix. 1tablespoon of dolomite lime per gallon. Added another 4 cups of perlite per gallon. Watered the first time with simple compost tea. Worm crap/black strap. Bubbled for 24 hours. Watered till run off.

3rd week. Hit them with some fish liquid. By the time the switch to flower. They've eaten up that nitrogen. Then it's your nutrient of choice. I use lab made salt stuff. Used every 4 waters. Plain water on the 5th. 4-1-4 cycle.

I'm growing some bubblegum and a strong sativa, no name.

The cheaper promix works fine. Sam Walton knows what's up.


Edit: That's a tablespoon per gallon not teaspoon.

i think I need a clarification;

pro-mix

does it already contain fertilizer from the bag
if yes would it be considered a hot mix? or more like a potting/seedling mix with very little to no macro nutrients
and is it sourced from organic sources/ amendments like cow shit and guano or more of a chemical time released fertilizer?

It's got enough for seedlings. Up to three weeks. Compost Tea will increase those numbers. They'll get past what the soil gives at about 3 weeks. Then add some nitrogen. Fish liquid is 5-1-1. All the N they need.

This isn't corn or a tomato plant. It doesn't take much for cannabis to take off. Think Johnson grass. You don't have to feed that shit and Monsanto has made an industry trying to get rid of it.

Fucking cannabis is a bitch plant weed. Adding a minimum extra and it turns pretty.

5 lbs- BAT GUANO(0-4-0)
2.5 lbs- BONE MEAL (3-15-0)
2.5 lbs- FISH BONE MEAL
3 cups- OYSTER SHELL
3 cups- KELP MEAL
2 cups- AZOMITE
1 cup- DOLOMITE
3/4 cup- EPSOM SALT
2 Tbsp- MYCORHIZAE
Mix thoroughly and I mean very thoroughly, breaking up any large clumps and chunks, making sure all ingredients become completely mixed. Then store the soil mixture in 3 large plastic covered garbage cans. Water the mixture thoroughly but do not drench or over water, be sure all soil is moist. Cover and allow to sit 6-12 weeks. As far as we know the soil does not have an expiration date, however we have always used ours within a year. The soil mixture needs to be above freezing but doesn't necessarily need to 'cook' as Sub had originally said. Do not become alarmed if you get white webbing, also on the same note, do not become alarmed if you do not get webbing. Lack of webbing could be the cause of the sun hitting the cans and burning the webbing off, it will not disrupt the process of your soil if it does not get webs due to sun. Best case scenario is to store at approximately 78 degrees out of the direct sunlight.

im going to work toward that direct but im not going to dive in with both feet to fast

since I have complete confidence in salt fertilizers Im going to ease into the amendments slowly

on another note;

so I looked up the pro-mix at walmart

$80 for 3.8 cubic ft which is about 28 gallons = $2.85 a gallon

the fox farm ocean frog is about $20 for 1.5 cubic ft which is about 11 gallons = $1.81 per gallon

that's going the wrong direction lol

the promix is more expensive than the ocean forest

and id feel funny buying pot mix al walmart in the dead of winter:dunce:

so I might just stick with the ocean forest and buy it from the hydro store I guess
