if you where able to remove the differences in flavor, smell, and taste to remove all other notable distinctions or differences to be able to do a blind smoke comparison between say 6 or 8 different plants, in an attempt to identify or label on strain from another
no I wouldn't be able to identify one pot from another by name in every case or even most cases, so I don't completely disagree with the concept of it being over rated to some degree, thru marketing
there was a time when many of us would have been happy with some good basic Mexican or Columbian or northern lights and that was few and far between ... these days its like a buffet so we get real picky and make more out of it cuz we can and cuz its fun
but there have been plenty of times ive grown varieties that felt completely different from anything else id ever smoked
I grew out a cheese variety one time that made my head feel like it was being squeezed every time I smoked it, it wasn't for me
I got some Tahoe I just smoked that makes me drop dead exhausted..if i smoke it during the day im guaranteed to nap
I got some satori that makes me a chatty sally and is a great day time smoke
I smoked something down in florida 20 years ago they called crippy and I couldn't lift the fork to my mouth to eat and I was completely non functional.. friends said I was drooling
(strangely DNA just put something up claiming to be just that crippy florida something ocean weed i think he called it )
but I can also say in many cases the differences are subtle or at least too subtle to distinguish
but when your suffering from an alignment of one type or another, you find out real fast which plants give you relief and which don't
you've really never experienced one pot making you super hungry every time you smoke it over some other
