DIY with Quantum Boards

Okay, guys, tell me if I'm on the wrong track here; in my noobness, I don't have the know-how to answer the question for myself.

So I posted my idea of creating a main flowering light out of 4 QB120s, run at 60w each, for a 240w fixture. Sounds like a decent amount of power, right? But I know that wattage isn't everything, especially with LEDs, and I'm wondering if it would lack sufficient penetration? I would imagine the difference in efficacy between 4 boards run at 60w each and 2 boards running at 130w each could be significant? Something tells me I may be barking up the wrong tree.

Drop some knowledge on me, folks!
I bet it would flower a 3x3 or a bit smaller fine

I know the QB120 is rated at 60 watts without a heatsink, but I'm wondering if putting 4 boards together and running them at max, with a driver attached to the fixture, would necessitate a cooling solution? Perhaps remote-mounting the driver would be sufficient? I don't know, something tells me that I may be on the wrong track here. Building a 240w QB120 light would certainly be a bit cheaper than buying one of the 260w kits, but I'm not sure it would be worth the savings?

Quantum update :

Looks like the heatwave has GTFO of here .. Finally . But I brought some hurt on my a couple of my girls thru over feed. My screw up I should have lightened up a bit , and my 2¢ - you will notice that plants really don't have to be fed as regularly as say HID grows but more like LED ( about 30% less ) . I was able to catch it but , need to just space it out and drop ppm . Live and learn.

Anyways ... BLUE GLUE is stacking up , leaves are wonky from over feed but nugs are densing up. Since she is a Sativa I got time to recover my error. Fragrant and starting to flop so I gotta string up.

She is doing ok ... By the fading of leaves on her terms , so I just water her ( 6.0 HEMPY ) and monitor. The 3000k is working fabulously with zero complaints.

Here is the KOMAKUSH- I haven't shown her for a bit but she's looking like a star.
Another Sativa heavy strain , she has weeks to go and is probably the most perfumed of my plants ... Spicy and kind of earthy .

I used a 24V CV (constant voltage) Chinese Driver rated 75 Watts with a single QB 120. It pulled 75 watts. ok
i put another QB 120 is daisy chain(parallel) and it was pulling 160-170 watts. not ok
I am still looking for driver combos for QB 120

Generic Chinese drivers should be ok as long as they are CC and not CV
24V wall power adapters... may or may not work

Okay, guys, sorry for my incessant questions, but... Based on this post, I'm not really clear on whether or not the QB120s can be run in series?

Robin, in the quoted post you list the HLG‑240H‑C2100 as a driver to run 4xQB120 in series, but later in the post it sounds like you're saying the 120s can't be run in series? I'd love some clarification!

I think the reason I'm so stuck on this idea is because I haven't seen it done yet. But that's not a good enough reason on its own!

Product page for the qb120 says you can run up to 10 in series with the molex option. There is also a DC barrel jack option, maybe that's a lower voltage connecter.

Thanks. Don't know why I didn't look there in the first place! Hmm... The gears are turning.

HLG has been very helpful and offered to check everything for me if I ship it back. I had one last thought after looking at the 550 fixture they make. could the 2qb 120 be wired like this?
This is the way to wire them in series, problem solved, there was never really a problem, just me not knowing s...

Cobkits is out-stocking the original sellers of QBs. Here's a great business plan; offer a product for sale then constantly be out of stock. And btw, if anyone was smart they'd have some drivers manufactured which work as well as Meanwells but are cheaper. How hard could that be? How elaborate would a driver need to be to produce light for plant growth rather than human eyes? My guess, not very. We've got everybody making LEDs but nobody making the drivers which cost as much or more. Bridge rectifier and a current regulator. How much could that cost to make?
So make one let me see it. Why put all that work in, i have tested and tried dozens of different drivers, there are plenty of other companies some cost less some cost more .meanwell did all the work for us. And of all ive used there the most efficent and reliable and have a lot more inside then a bridge rectifier and current regulator. Nobody is making the cobs ,strips or boards either but we could. But its done for us, but the best part is we take these prebuilt components and make them our own

I think the 60 watt $29 boards no heat sinks are a Great deal, just buy a driver plug and play all day. You're barely noticed them on your electric bill. I'm grabbing 1/4K and 3/3500K for a 3x3!
Edit: Steve do you have a date when these will be in stock by any chance? these boards are powerful watts the Ppfd? Thanks Steve✌

I am on the fence about a 550. we already have been testing with the 260w kit and I see the potential however I am not sure they will be a fit for our growing style. we grow small tree like plants which is great with de hps however can that be translated using the 550 being it has to be ran so close.
What are talking? I don't care your on the fence lol! Just sayin. I'm not talking about my light I'm talking about UVB added to my light. I've been using it quite a while now and had some pretty Good Yields.

What's your growing style? I'm No-Till doing one plant ScrOG in a 4x4 in 15g pot with good enough results for me anyway. But that's my growing style.
