2700k LED for veg... does it suck?

I bought quantum boards that are 2700k in color. It's gonna be great for flower but must I really buy another one that's 4000k for veg? Will my current 2700k light suck for veg?

I don't know, I'm inclined to say it wont suck but isn't optimum. There's a big difference in spectrum between QBs or cobs and lights like HID or CFL.
I would try it and see what the internodes are spaced like. I vegged with HPS for some years, worked great, not optimum, in summer I veg with 315cmh @3100k, that works great but there are massive differences in spectrum.

I'm not sure how big of a setup you have for lighting, but I'd recommend possibly using some supplemental lighting for now just to add a bit more on the "blue" side vs buying a whole new lighting setup.The bulbs are only like $8.

Considering the investment I would. Some guys use Metal Halide for veg through to the first 1-2 weeks after flip to control stretch and reduce power consumption, then flower with a more powerful HPS. However I have seen guys with 150 and 400 watt HPS setups that do both. For sure you can do it. Plus you can dim your rig so no worries. (at least I think you can dim those QB's) There is still plenty of blue in the 2700K spectral distribution chart. If you grow Indica the stretch thing should not be a huge issue imo. You should definitely do a grow journal so we can see the results.

I've got a 6 cob rig with 3500 in the two middles, 2700s in the four corners. I haven't vegged with them though, so ya- do a grow journal! I'm interested.

High CRI is going to promote more stretch than low K. I think 2700K 80 CRI isn't going to grow much different than any other 80 CRI temp.

Even 2700K 90CRI will veg fine, there's just going to be more vertical growth. Might be a good thing in a SCROG.

If you add supplemental royal blue you can balance the energy. Royal Blue 460nm creates energy for red colors to work harder and reduce stretch. You can also use the RB thru flower as well since it muliplies the energy for red light to absorb at higher rates.

i think hes confused on 460 nm vs 4000k

OP, they are wholly unrelated
460 nm = a monochromatic blue color of LED (that would make your spectrum more blue-ish overall)

4000K = a "color temperature" which is a measure of an over all spectrum. like your 2700k. 4000k is obviously "bluer" ("whiter"/"less red")

in this case adding "blue" lights like 430 or 460 nm monos, or "white spectrums that are bluer" like 5000K, 6500K, etc, can indeed raise the overall color temp of your rig to ~4000K

I've read that 2700k for veg will make the plants stretchy with distant internodes which will cause the buds to not connect during flower to form large buds.

I definitely don't want that. I want large colas.

So what's my best bet to add that blue spectrum in there along with my 2700k qb?
I'm thinking 300w of blue cobs?
Can you put together a build for me of 300w blue cobs?
