And I completely agree with dual heating plates seeming to be key. In retrospect to yodas comment, with reading about the material it seems if you were pressing at over 500 degrees then yes it could potentially be harmful. But from my reading I don't see much sense in pressing over 320 so I don't think it should pose any health risk.

Why don't you keep the temp around 200-210-220 like everybody else? Or heck, go ahead on, ramp the temp up till it smokes out the seam. :)

Close! The ones on Amazon are 4x7. I'll for sure start down there for temp on your recommendation, where do you hear about people pressing that low? The lowest I've really heard was at some tech show where they were demoing new presses their "secret" perfect temp was 240

The one-rod per block heat pretty quick. That means you'd have (4) leads to the hot box?
Why would you need 4x7? 4x5 is a pretty big block to fill. To each his own. Have fun! :)

I got some 5 x5 plates from az press co. for my 10 ton press, they work perfect. I wanted 4x4 or bigger, but not a weird one like 4x7

Well I guess I would kind of like to be able to run more at a time. I'm growing my bud and would like to make a complete switch to wax. It would be nice if I didn't have to press 60 times every harvest lol. I was thinking since I was moving over to a real deal hydraulic press I would have plenty of pressure for the increased surface area.

I've heard the rectangular ones are more weed specific as the rosin will have more area to escape to. The square design I was told was more for the t shirt presses. I mean so far in this thread it seems most of what I've read has been garbage. But hey here's my first grow a couple weeks from harvest, my local buddy who I trumped with same clones also said most of my newly found knowledge was junk too. Just saying hehe

Edit: I'm sure there's better crops, but for my first one and some of the fumbles I learned the hard way, I'm proud.

I really am open to starting off at 200 though. I realize not all presses are the same and a lot of it will come down to the quality of the setup as well as product. Others may need to set there's to 250 to make up for cold spots or uneven heating. Or maybe to make up for the lack in pressure.

Thinking about it, maybe you don't consider that dual heating rods because each one isn't temperature controlled? I think the idea is heating at two points can have the ability to hold a more even temperature across the surface of the plates. I say can because it's not guaranteed. Single heating rods could easily outperform dual depending on the alloy of the blocks or even the rods just being more accurate and/or powerful themself.

And plate size really all comes down to how much you want to run at a time(assuming you have the pressure to deal with the increased surface area.) So if you ever find your self questioning someone's plate size, it may simply be due to the amount you run and not feeling like you would want to or have the capability to run more at a time. But I don't want to have to press daily or weekly. I would like to press it all and be done until next harvest. How much I can run at a time will translate into how much of my spare time this proccess eats up.

Wow man, the heated plate industry is moving forward fast. First I've seen. And having a constant temp across the plates makes sense. Plate size depending on output needs for sure. Glad I'm tight with my rosin kit for my needs. It's a great tool to have on hand. Peace and happy pressing!

Yea I'm looking to press asap but have already dropped a small fortune on setup to grow them. This isn't a commercial operation by any means, so just gotta wait until I'm ready to drop another 500 on my hobby lol. And as you can see I haven't even had the fruits of my labor, so paying to construct that and still get supply of smoke has been irritating. I'd like to enjoy the savings there and then get the press.

*bump* So what's the concensus on these plates? $250 for a starter set of plates, not a bad deal eh? I'm looking to grab a 10 ton benchtop press (with gauge), DakeB-10,balleigh, or a strongway (Northern tool). I figure, go with a nice press and then upgrade to a caged set of plates by low temp or twgf.

I've read as many reviews as possible on these and overall, people seem happy with them. There are some issues as with any product you buy online that has to be shipped.

What I don't get is.....There seems to be 4-5 suppliers of this same "Kit". RosinKing on various different websites, Tuopoke, dhgate, amazon and ebay. I take it they are all the same manufaturer. The differing prices reflect shipping origins and taxes I'm assuming. Gonna pull the trigger really soon on my press, still undecided about my plates.

It's about time I upgrade my Irwin clamp+flat iron rig!

I ended up going a different route, I grabbed a pair from the rosin shop on amazon. Heated with silicone pad evenly instead of a rod. They work great.
