while he's busily fucking up N.A.S.A. as badly as he can, he decides that he likes to play with rockets, so he gives space to the military.....that's not going to alarm the rest of the world....i don't see a race to establish bases on the moon, and possible armed conflict to defend them....just another way to keep the world on it's toes...

Why not spend those billions of dollars to ensure a better quality of life for American Citizens? They are quick to claim they don't have funds for the peoples needs but sure are quick to throw cash at shit which offers zero benefits to the evryday joe

lOL, you are so under the mind control of the media, in your case liberal media. Look outside your comfy little world and do a search for Wm Tomkins to name only one whistleblower, but he was designing military in space bck in the early 50s. Do you recall Rental Raegan speech where he talked about how soon we would forget our petty differences if there was a common enemy. Starwars was not to scare the Russians, that was a cover to get the tax payers to fund the real boogeyman

To me, it's a false choice between funding academic research and spending money on people. Spending money on education and funding research creates a virtuous cycle of education and advancement for society. Space research is one area where society has seen good returns on the money spent. There are plenty examples of non-productive spending in the US. Tax cuts for the wealthy is an example of where government made a bad investment. Also military spending. The military isn't a good place to head space research. Should be under civilian control.

Although this is costly, it is actually a smart idea. In reality its no different than our current Navy. We control the seas, which is why for the most part why we control most of the world. The same will apply to space once humans can operate more comfortably in it.

Very strategic, (and brilliant), move. Best President ever!

LOL

"Control the world"

We can't afford that Navy. Waste of money. Let's put defense back into the defense budget.

IF we were going to militarize space, we should have done it in the 60s and 70s, when the momentum was there, now there's going to be fantastic resistance, perhaps rightfully so, the atmosphere is not right for this, and would takes several years of preparation to get the national fervor built up to support it. and neither our enemies or our allies is going to go along with this without problems. problems that will hopefully have to be dealt with by trump's successor.

The idiots say we can't afford health care for children and old people and are trying to slash the budget everywhere but apparently we have enough to waste it on this stupid shit. Defense contractors will be happy to start a arms race in space, swamp's getting deeper.

All it has to do is come from the orange turds mouth and you think it's genius, what a brain washed idiot.

the government doesn't realize what a literal gold mine they're potentially sitting on, and platinum, and diamonds, and rare earths.....
instead of build bombs in space, build solar powered smelters. send scouts out in small ships with boosters and cables, send asteroids into orbit where they can be picked up and smelted down, and you can build anything you want in space, without having to pay to lift it out of the earths gravity well. sounds like science fiction, but i'm pretty sure we have the gear to do it now, if we could get the fuck off our asses and do something

Indeed, it certainly isn’t science “fiction”.

The first trillionaire there will ever be is the person who exploits the natural resources on asteroids," Neil deGrasse Tyson said.

These companies are already on it:
https://www.planetaryresources.com/
http://deepspaceindustries.com/

They got plenty of investors and a huge amount of capital. I don’t think space mining should be a government activity or funded with tax money, but, a single 1-mile diameter metallic asteroid can contain enough precious metal to wipe out the entire debt of the US.

The government should, if they could afford it, at most, imo, create some means to protect the space miners against Russian and Chinese space pirates. Enter Space Force
