but for some reason, it doesn't to our leaders...
Hey, it matters too the Dems, it's just the Republican pukes in Congress that have their heads up Trump's fat ass, and do FUCKING NOTHING to stop a guy that 3 years ago they hated
They'd rather see interment camps for children, and that's exactly what they are doing.
Fuck the GOP, bunch of cunts that they are.

well, i'd like to go with that, but i can't. both sides are fucked up, both sides are in someones pocket, half the time the same pocket. Republicans and Democrats both have an agenda, and the biggest difference between the two is who ends up giving more orders.
i'd like to say one was better than the other, but they're both just a bunch of assholes who want to tell the rest of the world what they have to do. they can both get fucked as far as i'm concerned

IF we were going to militarize space, we should have done it in the 60s and 70s, when the momentum was there, now there's going to be fantastic resistance, perhaps rightfully so, the atmosphere is not right for this, and would takes several years of preparation to get the national fervor built up to support it. and neither our enemies or our allies is going to go along with this without problems. problems that will hopefully have to be dealt with by trump's successor.
We've been militarizing space since the 1960s. First it was for reconnaissance, then communications and navigation, then satellite interdiction. Let's not forget the use of space as a highway to lob nuclear missiles at one another.

This is the logical next step.

Space was never going to remain peaceful. It's too easy for one nation it another to gain a huge first mover advantage.

No I don't like it. But I like the idea of being the only knife fighter in a gunfight even less.

i wasn't saying it shouldn't be done, i was saying the best time to do it was while the momentum was there. we could have built a base on the moon years ago, and by now we'd pretty much own space. we would have had a huge lead, and a huge advantage. now we're behind the chinese and the russians.....it just irritates the fuck out of me to be behind the russians at anything

The idiots say we can't afford health care for children and old people and are trying to slash the budget everywhere but apparently we have enough to waste it on this stupid shit. Defense contractors will be happy to start a arms race in space, swamp's getting deeper.
I agree.

That doesn't make the necessity of an American military presence in space any less essential for our defense.

Funding social programs for citizens is also a necessary and desirable activity but saying that we can do one but not the other is a false choice. We can do both and we must.

How to pay for it? Tax large corporations and the wealthy.

These idiots will make space travel impossible. All they have to do is blow up a few things in orbit and the cascade of debris will take out more and more satellites and increasing the debris in orbit. It can become a exponential process that will make entering or exiting earths orbit impossible.

the government doesn't realize what a literal gold mine they're potentially sitting on, and platinum, and diamonds, and rare earths.....
instead of build bombs in space, build solar powered smelters. send scouts out in small ships with boosters and cables, send asteroids into orbit where they can be picked up and smelted down, and you can build anything you want in space, without having to pay to lift it out of the earths gravity well. sounds like science fiction, but i'm pretty sure we have the gear to do it now, if we could get the fuck off our asses and do something
It isn't an either/or choice. The whole history of American settlement is a story of military and civilian interests cooperatively developing our country.

Many of the technologies we take for granted and use for peaceful purposes were either invented for military use or perfected by it. Air travel is a prime example; without massive and ongoing military investment, we might still be flying in flimsy cloth winged biplanes.

This is a huge danger but it doesn't require militarization.

Currently, nearly all orbital debris flying around is from peaceful projects.
