Looking lush. You can probably get away with running the light closer to the canopy and dimming it if it's too much. I'm having Happy plants at about 10 inches pushing 425 w according to the kill o watt using eb strips and a couple qb 288s. Learning the led ropes myself, had em way to high my first few runs, just wasting photons. I mean it turned out great, but efficiency being the whole point, finding the sweet spot between watts and buds is where it's at. Really digging your journal, perhaps I should get my shit together and document my own. A little embarrassed to share my budget grow when everyone here's look so nice.

Don’t know your setup, and not intending to diss you, but at 10” gap it’s unlikely that you’re getting a wide even ppfd spread.

I’ve mapped ppfd in a 4x4 for an 8 bd set up of samsung lm301b boards, i can get close to upwards of 2200ppfd at 12”, but the spread ranges 700-2200+ ppfd @ max power; 400-1300+ at medium power.

At 18”, max power, 800-1700ppfd; 500-1100+, medium power.

At 24”, max power 800-1500; 500-900+ at med power.

At 30”, max power 800-1200+.

At 48”, max power 600-900+.

Sorry for all the nums, full details for 4bds in 2x4 setup, and 8bds in 4x4 setup, aug 8 post at https://www.rollitup.org/t/just-bought-my-model-48sams-from-timber-cant-wait-to-join-the-big-boys.971377/

Bottomline: close is intense, but not even. With right bd spacing, farther can be just as intense with better spread. You really have to map your lights to get a good understanding of how to optimize them.

Btw: veg 300-600ppfd, flower 600-1000 without co2

Good info, especially page 16 http://fluence.science/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/High-PPFD-Cultivation-Guide-9.27.16.pdf

A grow is a grow. Doesn’t matter how it gets done just as long as it does. I’m lowering to 24 inches ( as suggested) then slowly I’ll try and get it to 18 while watching plants. I’d be happy to look at what you’ve grow @INF Flux , budget or not.

Thank you for the compliment on the journal, I’m obsessively neat and organize everything lol.

I basically have wall to wall coverage in a 4x4. The strips are nice for spreading the light out, I get why that would not work well with cobs or maybe even QBs. I really should spend the money and get a meter, right now I am just going on the plants response.

Every setup is different, lola is using qb’s, same boards as mine, different layout tho.

I prefer a real ppfd meter, but ina pinch a much less costly lux meter and the following is better than nothing:

Yeah I'm thinking to bite the bullet and get a real one. Cars and computers and such keep breaking and eating my play money. I'd have a rosin press and the meter by now lol.

@lola, you've inspired me. Popping some Dark Helmets and I'll see how it goes with pics.
GL. A ppfd meter is to grow lights, like a pH/ec meter is to soil/hydro. I use both daily.

DAY 2

Lowered light to about 24 inches

Sprayed them at lights out for bug prevention ( reading last night says sometimes the grower won’t be aware the bugs are present)

Still watching for plants to show sex, also keeping eye out for more cal-mag issues since I’m using RO water.

Things ok for now.

Looks good, busy time over next couple weeks.

Are you running qbs flat out, or do you have them dimmed (by what amt)? What’s your temp & humidity? Thanks
Thank you

Full blast ( smaller board doesn’t dim)

Temps steady at 82 even with the little board added.

Humidity 53 ( for now)
My portable ac has a built in dehumidifier if I need it later. Inline fan on low.

You’re welcome
