They won’t sell you a kit for 250? If they got the hood that cheap I don’t see why they couldn’t. Sometimes you just got to ask, as they want to make money and are well aware that you can walk out the door and order it cheap. Just tell em this is what I got to work with money wise and i want to support local business but I don’t have the money too if prices aren’t competitive. I got my new gavitas for the same price as online which is a few hundred less than msrp per fixture. I told them look I want to buy from you guys for warranty purpose and because your my favorite store, but I can’t afford to pay 800 more than it would cost me elsewhere.my local store has blockbuster 8 for 99$ but then i would need ballast and bulb setup for lke 150 or less
gotcha gotcha. yea ima go see what they can do.They won’t sell you a kit for 250? If they got the hood that cheap I don’t see why they couldn’t. Fairly reliable. They hum more when the copper wire becomes slightly less tight. How reliable are the old magnetic ballasts? i heard they are noise but never used one.
when hanging large hoods with vivosun tent were you worried about weight with the tent bars?I used magnetic when first started if your only running one light then the lil but more power they pull won’t make a difference. If you have any kinda wiring experience they can be cheaper as they are fixable if they break unlike a digital ballast. Dimming features are nice on a 1000w but otherwise I wouldn’t see the need to dim a smaller fixture if going with a 600. Either kind of ballast will work, with ballast prices as cheap as they are now I’d go digital unless like I said your comfortable with wiring and want to be able to make the ballast last a really long time. Hell I got 2 kits from the htg clearance section and while the bulbs and hoods were junk the no name ballast still going strong, they were actually my back ups for my 630de’s which didn’t last long(cheap Chinese but only square wave de ballast could find at the time).
You could always buy used from Craigslist or eBay always deals on there. Also couple grow stores I know of have used gear. This way you could maybe pick up a back up and still end up cheaper.
Yeah tents are def cheaper online, I actually got like 3 Vivosun tents and while they aren’t near as nice as my more expensive tent they serve their purpose well.
Cool tubes are great but the blockbuster hood he mentioned his store had a good price on is one the best AC reflectors made IMO and not much more than a cool tube. Also if he was running a 3x3 and shooting for quality over quantity I’d recommend an open cmh fixture as my 3x3s with cmh put out the best quality I’ve ever seen hands down, also easy to cool and only 315 watts. Kinda sad to be taking them down but built a new room and will be all de hps as I need the penetration.Grab one wi a warranty ........4-6 inch inline fan to pull air in and take air out of the grow area.....as a rule of thumb for those of us into the varietal scene because of love for the plant and not monetary gain........a 600hps kool tube will properly light up a 3'x3' x7' grow tent so with this in mind I would also rec that you grab a reflector that sits on top of the tube itself! I found these to be super helpful! I would also suggest never touching the hps bulb with your bare hands ( best to get no oils etc etc on it) and trying to keep the bulb as clean from dust etc etc as possible
Also do yourself a favor and if u have the ability ALWAYS use a room in your house or place that gets lots of sun! I've started to utilize my sun exposure in my bedroom from 10am to 3pm on nice sunny days. I've seen the plants enjoying it as well!ok yea i went to my local store and they have pretty good prices on hoods and other things. I think i may buy my light from htg and everything else from local.
i would buy a 600watt and 400watt but that wouldnt be cost efficient to get this thing rolling. I can add lights and change the setup after i get it going.
I run 315s in my vivosun tents so they aren’t a big ac reflector. But they seem sturdy to me. I’ve hung a small filter as well as the light at times and it was fine. I also store some random things on top (not heavy stuff) and never had an issue. They have metal corner connectors so they are stronger than some of the tents with plasticwhen hanging large hoods with vivosun tent were you worried about weight with the tent bars?
They dont weigh much compared to a large carbon filter.when hanging large hoods with vivosun tent were you worried about weight with the tent bars?
Which vivosun cmhs did you grab? I was looking to pick one or two up. Hows the heat and any noise from the power supply?I love my 600w vivosun air cooled
got it on amazon for 249.99 canadian for fixture, 2 bulbs, ratchet straps and timer
Since then I bought 2 of the vivosun 315 cmh lights. Loving these things even more lol
Def liking the vivosun stuff I have.
I grabbed 2 of theseWhich vivosun cmhs did you grab? I was looking to pick one or two up. Hows the heat and any noise from the power supply?
Im thinking about grabbing 2 of these https://www.amazon.ca/VIVOSUN-315W-Grow-Light-Fixture/dp/B06WGLXKZJ/ref=sr_1_fkmrnull_2_sspa?keywords=cmh+vivosun&qid=1553519763&s=gateway&sr=8-2-fkmrnull-spons&psc=1I grabbed 2 of these

Bought 2 philips bulbs separately
Heat is a non issue with 1 running in veg, i havent even been using an exhaust, just kept the vents opened and used oscillating fans for circulation, Temps 79-80f....tent is in my basement where ambient is usually 70-73f
Zero noise, well not enough to hear above small 6 inch fans running
I absolutely am loving them so far, about to install the 2nd light and hook up my exhaust to flower , will be nice to see how both do flowering a 3x4 footprint.
Honestly in that short of a tent I'd go LED or CMH. 300W HPS even aircooled will make it quite toasty. 315W CMH is said to be about 600W of HPS but produces less heat typically.I'm looking at buying an air-cooled HPS light. Am I right in thinking that they're a tube and reflector that goes over the bulb that allows for ducting to be attached?
I have a 4ft wide by 60cm deep and 1.2m high tent. Do you think it's plausible for me to use a 300w HPS light in there, if I have it air-cooled?
TLDR; do air cooled HPS lights reduce the amount of heat normally created, by a significant percentage?
Thanks in advance.
